A’ja Wilson’s Season-High 37 Points Lead Las Vegas Aces to Stunning 90-86 Win Over Dallas Wings

The Las Vegas Aces cruised past the Dallas Wings with a narrow 90-86 victory on Wednesday, July 16 at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. A’ja Wilson emerged as the star of the night as dropped her season-high performance with 37 points, 10 rebounds and two assists. The game saw Wilson making 15 of her 25 shots from the field, recording her eighth double-double of the season, and fourth game with a 30+ point performance this season.

Not only this, but this also marked her 28th 30-point game, keeping her fourth in the list of most 30+ point games in the history of the league. Apart from Wilson, no other player on the Aces side managed to reach the 20-point mark. Jewell Loyd dropped 14 points, eight rebounds and two assists while Aaliyah Nye came up with 13 points, two rebounds and one assist. The Wings, who succumbed to their 17th defeat of the season, had rookie Paige Bueckers as their leading performer.

Bueckers dropped 20 points, three rebounds and eight assists. Apart from her, JJ Quinerly recorded 17 points, five rebounds and four assists while Luisa Geiselsoder tallied 14 points, seven rebounds and one assist. In addition, Haley Jones came up with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists while Li Yueru chipped in 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Las Vegas Aces Establish Dominance over Dallas Wings in Second Quarter

After finishing the opening quarter with an identical score at 22-22, the Aces gained momentum in the second quarter. They dominated the Wings 25-19 in the second period and entered halftime at a lead of 47-41. In the third quarter, they went on an 18-2 run and gained a lead of 70-48. However, the Wings came up with a comeback in the final quarter and went on a 9-1 run which narrowed the gap to 73-61 after Paige Bueckers came up with a three-pointer.

Dallas further cut down the deficit to 86-82 with three straight three-pointers. Bueckers came up with a crucial jumper with less than 30 seconds remaining on the clock, bringing the tally to 86-84. However, the Aces converted a layup while being fouled and extended their tally to four points, ultimately winning the game and pushing their tally to 11-11 in the season.
