Everton Agree £28M Deal To Sign Chelsea Midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Following the recent arrival of Dutch defender Jorrel Hato, Dewsbury-Hall is set to fill a much-needed No. 8 role in midfield.

Everton have struck a deal with Chelsea for the signing of midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in a package worth up to £28 million. The agreement includes an initial £24 million fee, with an additional £3-4 million in add-ons. The 26-year-old midfielder will now complete his medical and finalize personal terms.

Dewsbury-Hall joined Chelsea just last summer from Leicester City in a £30 million move that saw him reunite with manager Enzo Maresca. Despite high hopes, he found it tough to secure a regular role in a stacked midfield competing against Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Enzo Fernandez.

Chelsea’s Financial Balancing Act

Chelsea were open to letting Dewsbury-Hall leave but wanted to recoup most of the £30 million they spent on him just a year ago. Chelsea’s transfer activity has been closely monitored due to UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations. The Blues were fined €31 million ($36.5 million) recently and must ensure a positive net spend to avoid future European registration bans.

As a result, Dewsbury-Hall’s exit will help the club meet UEFA’s financial control requirements, which is key for them to register new signings like Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens and Liam Delap for the upcoming Champions League campaign. The deal is also expected to accelerate Chelsea’s pursuit of RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons.

Everton’s Summer Moves

Dewsbury-Hall was initially hesitant to leave Chelsea after contributing to a trophy-winning campaign. But with limited starting opportunities and Chelsea’s willingness to sell, a move to Goodison Park gives him the chance to become a regular starter and reignite his Premier League career.

He made 36 appearances across competitions, but only two starts came in the Premier League. However, he did leave a mark in the UEFA Conference League, scoring four times and assisting Jadon Sancho’s goal in the final against Real Betis. He also netted in the Club World Cup semifinal and featured in the 3-0 final win over PSG.

The Toffees are actively reshaping their squad under David Moyes. Following the recent arrival of Dutch defender Jorrel Hato, Dewsbury-Hall is set to fill a much-needed No. 8 role in midfield. Moyes also remains keen on adding a defensive midfielder, with Leicester’s Wilfried Ndidi among the players under consideration. Meanwhile, Everton are also pursuing 19-year-old Southampton winger Tyler Dibling.
