Oscar Piastri is the rising star of the current generation of Formula 1 drivers. He is the first driver from the 21st century to lead the F1 championship. Piastri has been the 2025 title’s favorite contender after an array of victories in this season. The most impressive fact is Oscar Piastri only won his first race last season at the Hungary GP.
Until now, Oscar Piastri has been driving without any major complaints. He has seven wins to his name in the 2025 season as of August 2025. Piastri, who is managed by former Red Bull driver and Formula 1 race winner Mark Webber, is the only Aussie to lead a championship in Formula 1. He is competing toe to toe with his teammate but has a slight edge over Norris. Piastri is more consistent than teammate when it comes to podium performances and race pace.
There’s no doubt that Oscar Piastri is leading by a healthy margin in the 2025 championship. However, his teammate Lando Norris is not too far behind. Their team, McLaren, has also decided to let the drivers race each other comfortably until the last race of the season.
Ahead of the Hungary GP weekend, the championship leader was questioned about his confidence in himself. Oscar Piastri humbly replied to the same claiming that he indeed believes he can win the title even though the competition is going to be strong.

“Not every weekend has been perfect, but there’s not many weekends in my whole life that have been perfect. I think just trying to put together a solid, consistent year is ultimately going to be an important thing.”
“I think the pace in the last few weekends, especially Spa, I’ve been very confident in and I’m very proud of, and I think I’m more than capable of continuing that for the rest of the year. I’m confident that I can do it, but it’s not going to be easy.”
Piastri also mentions that for the past few weekends, the championship battle is realistically going on between him and his teammate. When asked about the performance of his teammate, Piastri had a rather diplomatic answer. He highlighted Lando Norris’s talent while also approving the need for making riskier manoeuvres, which Norris has been doing lately.
“You can make an argument for either one – you can be consistent, but if you’re consistently coming second then that’s not very useful for you, so you do need to have both.”

“At the level of the field and the level of my team mate, you need to bring your best, and evidently when you’re pushing that hard there are going to be mistakes here and there, because it doesn’t come without that risk.”
“But you can’t just afford to take things easy – you’ve got to try and be consistent, you need to push and you need to be quick, and then of course you try and execute as best as you can. You need both to win the championship – you can’t just rely on one.”
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
