All You Need To Know About Fantasy Premier League 2025/26 Launch

Take a look at all the new features Fantasy Premier League managers need to know ahead of the upcoming season.

The wait is over for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) fans as the 2025/26 edition has officially gone live. Managers can now create their squads ahead of the new campaign, which kicks off on Friday, August 15. Player prices have now been revealed, with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah being made the most expensive midfielder ever at £14.5m.

All the latest features in Fantasy Premier League 2025/26 have now been confirmed, giving managers plenty to think about before finalizing their teams.

Here’s a look at all the key updates and new features FPL managers need to know ahead of the upcoming new season.

1. Classic or Head-to-Head Leagues

Fantasy Premier League 2025/26 lets managers create and join up to 30 private leagues with friends and rivals.

You can choose between two formats:

Classic leagues: where your total points throughout the season determine your position.
Head-to-head leagues: where you face another manager each Gameweek, earning three points for a win and one for a draw, just like in real football.

This season also introduces two exclusive global leagues:

One for managers who finished in the top 1% worldwide last season.
Another for those who ended in the top 10% globally.

2. Two Sets of Chips

Managers will now have two sets of chips across the season:

Wildcard, Free Hit, Triple Captain, and Bench Boost to use in each half of the season.
A total of eight chips throughout the campaign.
No Assistant Manager chip this year.

The first set of chips must be used before the Gameweek 19 deadline on December 30. They cannot roll over to the second half of the season.

3. Defensive Contributions

New points system also reward the defensive work of the players as following:

Defenders earn 2 defensive contribution points if they make 10 clearances, blocks, interceptions, or tackles (CBIT) in a game. These points will be capped at two points per match,
Meanwhile, Midfielders/Forwards must reach 12 defensive actions (CBIRT), including ball recoveries, to claim their 2 points.

4. Changes to Assist Rules

In previous seasons, a player would not receive an assist if their pass or cross was deflected by a defender and didn’t reach its intended target. That rule has now been simplified. From this season onwards, the intended destination of the pass no longer matters. A Fantasy assist will be awarded as long as these two conditions are met:

The goalscorer receives the ball inside the penalty area.
There is only one defensive touch before the ball reaches the goalscorer.

5. Extra Transfers for AFCON

To help managers plan around the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Gameweek 16 will offer extra free transfers. There will be up to five free transfers to cover potential absences from AFCON-bound players.

6. Team Badges

Thanks to a new partnership with Adobe, managers can now design custom team badges using Adobe Express with the help of AI tools (Firefly). This partnership will give managers a fun and creative new feature to personalize their squad.

7. Tweaks to Bonus Points System (BPS)

The Bonus Points System (BPS) in Fantasy Premier League rewards the top three performers in each match with three, two, and one bonus point respectively. For the 2025/26 season, several important changes have been made to how these points are calculated. There have also been changes made to how points are awarded for goalkeeper saves, goalline clearances, penalties scored and successful tackles.

Goalkeeper Saves

In previous seasons, goalkeepers earned two BPS points per save. From this season, the points will depend on where the shot was taken from:

Three BPS points for saving a shot from inside the penalty area.
Two BPS points for saving a shot from outside the box.

Penalty saves will now earn eight BPS points instead of nine. Combined with the three points for saving a shot inside the box, this action totals 11 BPS points.

Goalline Clearances

Goalline clearances will now carry greater weight. A player will earn nine BPS points for a clearance off the line, up from just three last season.

Penalty Goals

A new “Penalty goals scored” metric has been introduced. Regardless of a player’s position, scoring a penalty will now earn 12 BPS points. The position-based points will still apply to non-penalty goals in 2025/26.

Successful Tackles

Tackles have also been simplified for BPS. Previously, BPS rewarded “Successful Tackles (net)” – tackles won minus tackles lost.
Now, each “Tackle Won” earns two BPS points.
