Arsenal Complete Signing of Winger Noni Madueke From Chelsea

Abhinav Goel

Madueke will become Arsenal’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard and Zubimendi.

Arsenal have secured the signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea for an initial fee of £48.5m. The Gunners have acted swiftly to strengthen their attacking options for the new season. The 23-year-old England international has signed a five-year contract at Emirates Stadium. The overall transfer fee for the skillful winger is expected to go just over £50m with the add-ons.

Arsenal had been seeking additional wide attackers to complement Bukayo Saka and youngster Ethan Nwaneri. Since joining Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for £29 million, Madueke made 92 appearances for the Blues, scoring 20 goals across all competitions.

Chelsea Boost Financial Position

Chelsea needed to generate funds following recent Financial Fair Play breaches. Chelsea were fined €31 million ($36.5 million) for the breaches. As a result, Chelsea needed ro raise more than £60m through player sales to ensure that all their new signings would be registered for the Champions League. The sale of Madueke has significantly boosted Chelsea’s financial position. Also, Chelsea recently sold goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic to Bournemouth for £25m.

Madueke was part of Chelsea’s winning squad at the Club World Cup. He came on as a substitute in the Blues’ semi-final victory over Fluminense. He helped Chelsea reach the final of the competition. However, he was not a part of the Chelsea squad which defeated PSG 3-0 in the final.

Madueke Becomes Arsenal’s Fourth Signing of the Summer

While the winger featured predominantly on the right for Chelsea last season, Arsenal view him as an option to add depth and flexibility to their wide positions. Madueke will become Arsenal’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has refreshed his squad ahead of another Premier League title challenge.

Madueke began his youth career at Tottenham before moving to PSV Eindhoven. He has impressed at Chelsea with his pace, directness and ability to take on defenders. His transfer to Arsenal represents a significant addition to Arteta’s squad as they aim to build on last season’s progress.
