Mensik looks to build on his breakout season as Giron aims to pull off another upset on grass.
The 15th seed, Jakub Mensik, will take on unseeded American Marcos Giron in the second round of Wimbledon 2025. Giron arrives with confidence after edging past Camilo Ugo Carabelli in a tight straight-sets battle that featured back-to-back tiebreaks.
Mensik, meanwhile, opened his campaign with a solid four-set win over Hugo Gaston, highlighting his firepower on grass. With contrasting styles and momentum behind both, this matchup promises to test consistency and composure on the big stage.

Mensik arrives at Wimbledon on a high, ranked a career-best No. 17 after a strong 2025 season. The 19-year-old broke through with a title run in Miami, where he stunned Novak Djokovic in straight sets and beat Taylor Fritz and Arthur Fils along the way. He’s also posted quarterfinals in Brisbane, Auckland, Madrid, and Eastbourne, where he most recently fell to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Stat-wise, Mensik’s serve has been a weapon: 471 aces, 78% first-serve points won, and 38% break point conversion from 237 chances. While his return game remains a work in progress (29% points won), his firepower has carried him far.

Jakub gets his first win at Wimbledon.
Last year, playing his first main draw here, he suffered a crushing 5-set loss to Bublik.
Still only 19… but he’s grown in every way possible since then.

Giron’s season has been more up and down. He started strong with quarterfinals in Adelaide and Delray and reached the third round in Melbourne. A mid-season dip followed after a neck injury in Dallas, but he recently reached the Eastbourne quarters before falling to Fritz in three sets.
He has fired 151 aces, winning 70% of first-serve points and converting 42% of his 183 break chances. His return stats (28% first-serve return points) suggest he’ll need to capitalize on rare opportunities against Mensik’s booming delivery.

Jakub Mensik and Marcos Giron do not have a head-to-head yet.
| Jakub Mensik | Category | Marcos Giron |

| 22-12 | YTD W-L | 16-14 |

Mensik’s rise in 2025 has been hard to ignore. With a Miami title, consistent quarterfinal runs, and a dominant serve, he’s clearly the player in form. Giron’s game has patches of resistance, but unless he disrupts Mensik’s rhythm early, the Czech teenager should come through in four sets.
Prediction: Jakub Mensik in straight sets
