Fifth-seeded duo takes on British wildcards in opening-round showdown.
Fifth seeds Diana Shnaider and Mirra Andreeva will open their Wimbledon 2025 campaign against British wildcards Heather Watson and Emily Appleton. The two pairs are meeting for the first time, and while the Russians come in with an impressive track record this season, the home favorites will be hoping to cause an early upset on familiar turf.
One of the most consistent pairings of the season, Diana Shnaider and Mirra Andreeva have emerged as a formidable force on the doubles circuit. With titles in Brisbane and Miami and deep semifinal runs in Melbourne, Doha, Rome, and Roland Garros, their chemistry and firepower have been on full display.
However, they have been repeatedly defeated by the experienced Italian duo of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in Doha, Rome and Roland Garros, and also in the final of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In sync & on fire 🔥

In contrast, British wildcards Heather Watson and Emily Appleton are still finding their rhythm as a pair. They’ve played just one other event together this year, Birmingham, where they were upset in the opening round by Cristina Bucsa and Destanee Aiava.
As they clash for the first time in Wimbledon’s opening round, the odds clearly favor the seasoned Russian duo. But Centre Court has seen stranger upsets before. A fresh team against one of the tour’s most synced pairings, today’s match may just surprise us all.
