Elena Rybakina vs. Maria Sakkari Head-to-Head, Preview, Prediction, and Betting Odds for Wimbledon 2025 Second Round

Rudra Dubey

Rybakina eyes another deep run on grass as Sakkari looks to break new ground at Wimbledon.

The 11th seed, Elena Rybakina, will take on unseeded Maria Sakkari in a high-stakes second-round display at Wimbledon 2025. Rybakina cruised past Elina Avanesyan with a commanding performance, including a ruthless 6-1 second set, while Sakkari advanced with a composed straight sets win over Anna Blinkova.

While Sakkari has never progressed beyond the third round at the All England Club, Rybakina holds far more grass-court background, having lifted the Wimbledon trophy in 2022. With experience, form, and momentum on her side, the Russia-born-Kazakh enters as the clear favorite.

Elena Rybakina vs. Maria Sakkari Preview

Rybakina has bounced back strongly in 2025 after a brief mid-season dip, re-establishing herself as one of the most consistent performers on tour. The former Wimbledon champion reached the quarterfinals in Doha, London, and Berlin, with semifinal finishes in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Her highlight came in Strasbourg, where she edged Liudmila Samsonova in a gritty three-set final to lift the trophy.

Statistically, she has been sharp, winning 72.8% of first-serve points, converting 41% of break opportunities, and firing 235 aces in 41 matches.

Sakkari, meanwhile, has struggled to find rhythm this season. The Greek has not progressed past the Round of 16 at any event, with her best showing coming in Linz, a quarterfinal run halted by Dayana Yastremska. Across 30 matches, she’s posted 77 aces, a 64% first-serve win rate, and 41.3% break point conversion.

Elena Rybakina vs. Maria Sakkari Head-to-Head Record

Elena Rybakina leads the head-to-head against Maria Sakkari 4-1, having won their last three encounters in straight sets. Their rivalry began in 2020 in St. Petersburg, where Rybakina claimed a three-set victory. Sakkari’s lone win came two years later at Indian Wells, but since then, it’s been one-way traffic.

Rybakina has dominated their most recent matchups at the 2023 WTA Finals, the 2024 Miami Open, and earlier this year at the United Cup. Wimbledon will mark their first-ever Grand Slam meeting, adding an extra layer of pressure and significance.

Elena Rybakina vs. Maria Sakkari Prediction

Given Rybakina’s consistent form, strong service stats, and recent title in Strasbourg, she enters as the clear favorite. Sakkari, still searching for rhythm, hasn’t made it past the Round of 16 all season. Unless she finds sudden form, Rybakina should come through.

Prediction: Elena Rybakina in straight sets

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
