Liverpool Defender Completes Bayer Leverkusen Medical Ahead of £35M Transfer

Abhinav Goel

As Liverpool prepare for Quansah’s departure, they have turned their attention towards Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah has completed a medical at Bayer Leverkusen, moving closer to a £35 million switch to the Bundesliga this summer. The 22-year-old helped England Under-21s lift the European Championship on Sunday evening. The defender now looks set to begin a new chapter in Germany after a season that saw him win the Premier League title with Liverpool.

Quansah made just four Premier League starts last term due to Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate being ahead of him in the pecking order. However, his potential and composure on the ball attracted significant interest from across Europe. Bayer Leverkusen were particularly impressed with Quansah and their £35 million transfer offer was accepted by Liverpool.

Quansah has been highly regarded within Liverpool’s academy and his performances for England at the U21 Euros further highlighted his readiness for regular first-team football. The German giants will pay an initial £30 million to Liverpool, with a further £5 million in add-ons tied to performance milestones. As part of the deal, Liverpool have inserted a £51 million buy-back clause, effective from the summer of 2027.

Liverpool Target Marc Guehi To Replace Quansah

As Liverpool prepare for Quansah’s departure, they have turned their attention towards Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. The Reds are reportedly closing in on a deal for the 24-year-old defender, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal. Guehi has been a key figure for Palace and is expected to feature prominently for England at the 2026 World Cup.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot sees Guehi as a player capable of stepping into Liverpool’s defence. Guehi’s addition will definitely bolster the Premier League champions defense as the England defender has developed into one of the Premier League’s most dependable centre-backs in recent years. Liverpool are also willing to offer 19-year-old Scotland winger Ben Doak as part of a deal for Marc Guehi.
