Alexander Bublik Claims Second Halle Open Crown, Upsets Medvedev in 2025 Final

Alexander Bublik captured his fifth career and second title at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle with a composed and commanding 6-3, 7-6(4) win over Daniil Medvedev in Sunday’s final. The 28-year-old Kazakh sealed victory in just over 80 minutes, snapping a six-match losing streak against the Russian and getting the mental edge ahead of Wimbledon.

With the triumph, Bublik pockets €471,755 in prize money, gains 500 ATP ranking points, and jumps 15 places to world No. 30, securing a seeded spot at the All England Club. Medvedev, who was contesting his first final in 15 months, takes home €253,790 and 330 points, enough to move him back into the ATP Top 10.

Peaking at the Right Time

Bublik’s run in Halle was nothing short of electric. After stunning world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the second round, the unpredictable Kazakh surged into the final with renewed focus and momentum. Facing Medvedev, his longtime nemesis on tour whom he had never beaten in six prior encounters.

But this time, Bublik flipped the script, winning in straight sets. It wasn’t without resistance; the match came down to a tense second-set tiebreak. Still, his first-serve firepower and disruptive shot-making proved too much for the third seed on grass.

The Russian, a former world No. 1 and 2021 US Open champion, was playing in his first final since May 2023 but couldn’t find a way through the Kazakh’s fearless game. The loss marks Medvedev’s sixth consecutive defeat in a final and leaves him still searching for his 21st ATP title.

This title marks Bublik’s fifth career singles trophy, adding to previous wins in Montpellier (2022, 2024), Antwerp and Halle (2023). Despite the non-consecutive nature of his wins in Germany, Halle seems to be a happy hunting ground for the Kazakh.
