Tottenham Step Up Pursuit of Real Madrid Star Rodrygo

Abhinav Goel

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly intensified their efforts to sign Real Madrid forward Rodrygo in the January transfer window. Notably, the North London club are reportedly ready to meet Madrid’s £70 million asking price for the Brazilian international. According to reports, Spurs see the 24-year-old as a marquee addition to bolster their attacking options.

Spurs have continued to struggle for creativity in home fixtures this season. The left side of the attack has been a persistent issue, with Richarlison failing to impress in that role. While names such as Antoine Semenyo and Ademola Lookman have been linked as potential signings, Rodrygo has now emerged as Tottenham’s top target.

The Brazilian’s influence at Real Madrid has declined in recent months, particularly under new manager Xabi Alonso. The former Bayer Leverkusen manager has given Rodrygo a reduced role in the squad. Reports suggest both the player and the club are open to exploring transfer options this winter.

Eight Months Without a Goal for Rodrygo

Rodrygo is facing one of the most difficult periods of his Real Madrid career, having gone eight months without finding the back of the net. The Brazilian forward’s last goal came on March 4, when he opened the scoring in Champions League against Atletico Madrid. Since that night, Rodrygo’s form has dipped significantly.

Once seen as one of Madrid’s most dynamic attacking prospects, the 24-year-old now finds himself struggling to make an impact. For a player who once thrived on rhythm and instinct, the extended goal drought has raised concerns about his long-term role at the club.

Capable of operating across the frontline but most effective from the left, Rodrygo is viewed as an ideal fit for Tottenham’s system. A move to North London would also allow the dynamic winger to test himself in the Premier League, a challenge he is said to be keen on.

However, Spurs are not alone in their pursuit. Liverpool and Manchester City are long-term admirers of the Brazilian and are monitoring his situation closely. Liverpool are seeking a potential long-term successor to Mohamed Salah. Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly prepared to rival their North London neighbours should Real Madrid open the door to a sale in January.
