Jude Bellingham Fires Comeback Goal to Guide Real Madrid to Champions League Win

Moumita Dutta

Jude Bellingham returned to the scoresheet in style as Real Madrid edged past Juventus by a narrow 1-0 win in a tense Champions League encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu. It was a comeback for Bellingham and it was a moment that felt long overdue.

It was also a comeback for the roaring ‘Hey Jude’ chorus that has echoed through the stadium so often since his arrival. The 21-year-old midfielder had missed several weeks with a shoulder injury. Even then, he sealed Madrid’s third successive European win of the campaign with a decisive second-half strike.

After a frustrating opening 45 minutes, Vinicius Junior sparked the breakthrough in the 58th minute. He weaved past three defenders before unleashing a left-footed drive that rebounded off the post. Bellingham reacted quickest, calmly slotting home from close range to get the lead for Real Madrid.

Thibaut Courtois the Unsung Hero

While Bellingham claimed the headlines, Thibaut Courtois was equally vital in securing the win. The Belgian goalkeeper made several crucial stops, including a one-on-one save against Dusan Vlahovic and a late diving effort to deny Khéphren Thuram. Acknowledging Juventus’s spirited display, Courtois admitted after the match, “We had to sweat for it.”

The visitors have been without a win since mid-September. They showed resilience despite their recent slump and started the brighter of the two sides. They created early chances through Weston McKennie and Federico Gatti. However, once Madrid settled, their possession dominance was nearly 66%. And it gradually wore Juventus down.

Moment of Redemption for Jude Bellingham

For Bellingham, the goal marked more than just three points. It was a personal statement for the English midfielder. He has struggled for rhythm since returning from surgery. However, in this match, the Madrid star looked revitalized. After the match, he told TNT Sports:

“It’s a great feeling. It’s been a long time since I scored. To do it here, in the Champions League, and help the team win. It’s unbelievable.” The win keeps Real Madrid perfect in Europe with nine points from three matches. Meanwhile Juventus’ campaign continues to unravel.

They’ve earned just two points so far. Despite moments of promise under Igor Tudor, the Italian side were again undone by Madrid’s efficiency and Courtois’s brilliance. As the Bernabeu crowd serenaded Bellingham once more, it felt symbolic for the young star who is starting to come back to his best.
