Winning fights inside the octagon is one thing, but winning the social media game afterward? That’s a whole different level of satisfaction. Alex Pereira has never been much of a talker during fight week. The Brazilian knockout artist lets his fists do most of the communication. But after reclaiming his light heavyweight title at UFC 320, Pereira decided it was time to settle some scores online. His latest Instagram post went viral for all the right reasons.
He trolled Islam Makhachev and Magomed Ankalaev in his latest Instagram post, and the MMA world absolutely loved it. The video compilation perfectly captured the journey from disrespect to domination. Pereira didn’t write lengthy captions or fire off angry tweets. Instead, he let the footage speak for itself, stringing together clips that told a complete story.
The Instagram video opened with footage from the UFC 320 pre-fight press conference. Someone asked Magomed Ankalaev whether he would send Alex Pereira back to the tire shop where he used to work. Ankalaev’s response dripped with confidence and disrespect. The Russian said he would decimate Pereira in the fight and kill “Chama,” using Pereira’s nickname mockingly. Ankalaev added that whether Alex remained in the sport or returned to the tire shop was entirely up to him after the beating he would receive. Those words aged like milk left out in the sun!
The video then cut to actual footage of a young Alex Pereira working in a tire shop years ago. Pereira really did work that job before becoming a combat sports legend. Showing that humble background added layers to the story. Here was a guy who came from nothing, grinding away at manual labor before discovering his fighting talent. The clip humanized Pereira while also setting up what came next.
Then Islam Makhachev’s voice appeared in the video, saying “Put him Ankalaev” with clear encouragement. Makhachev had made that comment in response to Daniel Cormier suggesting Pereira could become an Olympic champion in wrestling within two years. The lightweight champion clearly doubted Pereira’s grappling credentials.
The final portion of the video delivered the footage from UFC 320 showing Pereira absolutely destroying Ankalaev in the first round. The Brazilian applied relentless pressure, rocked Ankalaev early, and finished him with ground and pound for a TKO victory. All that tough talk from Ankalaev evaporated in under 2 minutes. Pereira made it look easy, reclaiming his title at 38 years old against an opponent riding a 14 fight unbeaten streak. The video ended without any additional commentary needed. The results spoke louder than any words could!
