Jean Silva didn’t hold back when describing what went down at the host hotel in San Antonio on Tuesday. The featherweight prospect, who’s been tearing through the UFC with a perfect 5-0 record filled with highlight-reel finishes, found himself face-to-face with Diego Lopes and their respective teams. According to Silva, Lopes was running his mouth and asking how Silva liked certain things. This obviously didn’t sit well with the rising contender and his crew.

“He said a few things. He kept asking me how I liked it. Security kind of stepped in, but Flavio Alvaro, one of my coaches, an old-school guy, kind of came to him and said, ‘Bro, just chill out, or you’re going to get it here.’ You know how Brazilians are. … He’s really lucky that Carlos Prates is not here.”

What made this confrontation particularly interesting was the size difference between the two camps. Silva mentioned that Lopes brought along a bunch of smaller fighters from the 135 and 145-pound divisions. Meanwhile Silva’s team included some bigger dogs from the welterweight and middleweight classes. Security had to step in before things got completely out of hand, but not before Silva’s coach Flavio Alvaro delivered what sounds like a classic old school warning.

Silva’s confidence remains sky high despite the drama,. Coming off a title shot loss to Alexander Volkanovski, Lopes is probably feeling the pressure to bounce back strong. Meanwhile Silva sees himself as the next big thing in the featherweight division. When two fighters believe they’re destined for greatness and only one can advance their career significantly with a victory!
