Jannik Sinner Equals Novak Djokovic And Roger Federer’s Iconic Grand Slam Records Ahead Of 2025 US Open Semi-Final

Can Jannik Sinner become the first to successfully defend the US Open since Roger Federer?

What can one even say about Jannik Sinner? At just 23, Sinner is showing the kind of domination that we’ve rarely seen in tennis. He showed evidence of that after putting forth an absolute masterclass against his compatriot Lorenzo Musetti in the quarter-finals of the 2025 US Open. However, more than this, Sinner has put his name in not one but two all-time groups of elite players in the history of the sport.

Jannik Sinner Nears a Successful US Open Defense Amid Record-Breaking Run

Sinner has played every Grand Slam final in 2025. While one awaits to see whether he’ll do the same in the US Open or not, but that means that he has played 7 matches in every Grand Slam. Adding the 5 played till now in the US Open, the total becomes 26 matches. Only 5 other players have played more than 25 Grand Slam matches in a year in the history of the sport.

That group includes names like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Mats Wilander, and Rod Laver. That’s certainly an amazing company to be in for Sinner. However, there’s another record he’s nearing – the all-time hard-court win streak. With 26 wins, Sinner has equalled Djokovic’s streak from 2015 to 2016. If he wins the semi-final, he’ll equal Djoker’s 2011-2012 streak.

Roger Federer remains at the top with a ridiculous 40 consecutive hard-court wins from 2005 to 2008. Certainly, Sinner has a long way to go to reach that, but if he wins the US Open, the 23-year-old will have the second-longest such streak in Men’s tennis history. That’s certainly not something to scoff at. It’s this quality of Sinner that turns all his on-court opponents into his fans after they face him.

Sinner Leaves Musetti Shocked After An Easy Win

Jannik Sinner was on the attack from the moment he stepped on the court against Lorenzo Musetti. The defending champ won 5 straight sets that absolutely rattled his compatriot. In fact, the match became so one-sided that at one point, the crowd in the Arthur Ashe Stadium began to entertain itself.

There were loud chatters, spectators moving from one seat to another during changeovers. Even the actor John Turturro briefly replaced the camera operator to entertain the crowd. However, none of this fazed Sinner, who was adamant in making the quick work of Musetti. His concentration was reminiscent of his match against Alexander Bublik, who never had any answer for Sinner. In the end, Bublik called Sinner an AI-like player for his efficiency.

Finally, Sinner defeated Musetti 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 to reach his 4th Grand Slam semi-final of 2025. He’ll face Felix Auger-Aliassime next. Can Sinner beat the Canadian who leads him 2-1 in head-to-heads?
