Rasmus Hojlund Move to Napoli Confirmed; Here’s What We Know

Rasmus Hojlund’s Manchester United stint has come to a sudden pause. The Danish striker has joined Napoli on a season-long loan, ending weeks of speculation about his future at Old Trafford. The move includes a conditional obligation to buy for €44 million next summer.

That is, if the Serie A champions qualify for the Champions League next season. The Red Devils will also receive a €6 million loan fee as part of the agreement. Hojlund signed for United in 2023 for an initial €75 million. However, he struggled for the entire two years to live up to expectations.

He showed some promise in Europe. For example, he has scored 11 goals across Champions League and Europa League fixtures. However, he could not replicate that form in the Premier League. The forward netted just four league goals in the 2024–25 season.

It was a sharp decline from his debut campaign. This summer, the Red Devils are strengthening their attacking options with big-money signings. This includes big names, like Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo. These players have become a regular as well.

The arrivals pushed Hojlund down the pecking order, leaving him out of all four matchday squads under new head coach Ruben Amorim. The striker publicly expressed his desire to stay and fight for his place. Even so, his omission and lack of opportunities made an exit inevitable.

Napoli Make Bold Move for Rasmus Hojlund

Napoli were searching for a replacement after Romelu Lukaku suffered a pre-season injury. Then they swooped in to secure Hojlund’s services on the deadline day. The 22-year-old will reunite with former United teammate Scott McTominay and link up with Kevin De Bruyne in Antonio Conte’s attack.

The reigning Serie A champions fought off competition from AC Milan to land the forward. For United, the deal helps balance the books under Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules. If the obligation-to-buy clause is triggered, the club will avoid a financial loss on Hojlund.

The striker had scored 26 goals in 95 appearances for the Red Devils since joining them from Atalanta. His career seems to have come full circle, returning to Serie A where he first made his mark. Napoli will hope the Danish striker can rediscover his scoring touch in Italy and help them in both domestic and European front.
