‘It’s Bigger Than Me’ – Taylor Townsend Gets Emotional on Fans’ Support After Ostapenko Drama Amid 2025 US Open Round 3 Win

Taylor Townsend was filled with gratitude after receiving immense fan love.

Taylor Townsend had a lot on her mind when she entered the round 3 match against Mirra Andreeva. The American star found herself at the center of a heated debate after an on-court verbal spat with Jelena Ostapenko. It seemed nearly the entire tennis world united in support of Townsend. However, the 29-year-old couldn’t risk dwelling in the past and had to move forward. And she did exactly that by beating Andreeva, but after her win, Townsend gave a heartfelt message to her supporters.

Taylor Townsend Shows Her Gratitude After Advancing to US Open Round 4

Mirra Andreeva was an easy favorite heading into this match. The world No.5 was in sublime form and seemingly headed towards a deep run. However, Taylor Townsend came in with fiery aggression and posed a question that Andreeva had no answers for. In the end, Townsend won 7-5, 6-2 and advanced to the round of 16 of the US Open. But this was more than just a win for Townsend.

“Thank you to everyone whose supported me these last 48 hours,” Townsend said after the match. “It’s bigger than me, it’s about the message, it’s about the representation. It’s about being bold and being able to show up as yourself, and I did that tonight.”

Townsend, of course, was talking about the aftermath of her on-court incident with Jelena Ostapenko. The Latvian player had said Taylor Townsend had “no class” and “no education” after the round 2 loss. Even though Ostapenko clarified the meaning behind her statements, she nonetheless faced the heat from the entire tennis world. Naturally, this became a talking point ahead of Townsend’s clash with Andreeva, where the American player put on an absolute clinic.

Mirra Andreeva Left Stunned By Townsend

Taylor Townsend was always going to be a tricky opponent for Mirra Andreeva. She’s a lefty who likes to move towards the net. On top of that, Townsend also had the complete support of the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Yes, Andreeva has been a huge revelation, but she’s still just 18, and her relative inexperience showed its face in this match. As one can remember, something similar happened with Andreeva in the French Open when she fell to the French player Lois Boisson.

Andreeva started strong by breaking Townsend’s very first serve. However, Townsend answered back by breaking Andreeva’s serve immediately, and that’s when the momentum began to shift. The 29-year-old began enjoying her time on the court and continuously targeted Andreeva’s forehand. Add to that Townsend’s often brave runs towards the nets, and Andreeva was left frustrated.

Now, Townsend has a chance to reach her career’s first singles Grand Slam quarterfinals. However, first she’ll have to beat Barbora Krejcikova in round 4 of the US Open. Will Taylor Townsend continue her miraculous run? That’ll be known soon.
