Alexander Zverev vs. Ben Shelton Head-to-Head, Prediction and Betting Odds for ATP Cincinnati Open 2025 Quarterfinal

Sankalp Harikrishnan

Winner to face Alcaraz or Rublev in the semifinal.

World No. 3 Alexander Zverev will face the wrath of arguably the most feared player on the ATP circuit at the moment, on Friday. The German superstar is set to take on home favourite Ben Shelton in the 2025 Cincinnati Open quarterfinals. While Zverev is a former champion at this event, Shelton is gunning for double glory after winning in Canada last week. Today, we look to break down this contest before analyzing the BetMGM best odds.

Despite being eliminated from the doubles competition a day ago, Alexander Zverev managed to earn revenge over Khachanov in the singles Round of 16. Despite the Russian ending Zverev’s campaign in the Toronto semis, the 28-year-old earned bragging rights in Cincinnati. A three-time Grand Slam finalist, Zverev’s prominent performances this year came at the Australian Open (runner-up), BMW Open (winner) and Boss Open (runner-up). He has been winning a shade under 80% points on first serve so far.

Ben Shelton began his campaign by reaching his second major semifinal in Melbourne Park. While his next big tournament was in Munich where he finished as the runner-up, the 22-year-old American eventually entered the Top-10. Shelton’s first few outings among the world’s elite were disastrous; nonetheless, he bounced back to reach the last eight at Wimbledon, semis in Washington and eventually lift the Canadian Open trophy. Yet to drop a set all week, Shelton enters this match with a 35-16 record in 2025.

Alexander Zverev vs Ben Shelton Head to Head Record

Zverev has a 3-0 head-to-head record against Shelton. Two out of these three previous meetings came in 2025.

Coincidentally, the first Zverev-Shelton battle was staged in the quarterfinal of this very event last year. The German dropped the opening set, before pulling off a stunning comeback to prevail. In the next two matches against the southpaw, Zverev did not drop a set en route to victory. Having faced one another on all the surfaces already, Friday will bring about their second hard court match-up.

Alexander Zverev vs Ben Shelton ATP Cincinnati Open 2025 Prediction

While Shelton has been in top form so far, his past record against Zverev will haunt him. It is set to be the first match-up between two Top-10 players in Cincinnati this year. Both players will go in with zeal and confidence for different reasons – Zverev will be looking to snap Shelton’s 9-match win streak; Shelton will hope for a maiden win over a Top-3 player. Even though both players are strong servers, expect plenty of long rallies and net exchanges.

Prediction: Ben Shelton in three sets.
