Enjoying a fascinating 2025 season, Ben Shelton has the world at his feet at the moment. The 22-year-old achieved his career-best performance at the three majors so far, and will be looking to beat his semifinal finish at the US Open. A fiery southpaw with an attacking mindset, Shelton won the Canadian Open in Toronto last week. He boasts an impressive 34-16 record this year, placing him at a career-high World No. 6 ranking. The American beat Ugo and Bautista Agut to reach the pre-quarterfinals.
A business-like finish from Ben 🫡

Currently the third best Czech player in terms of rankings, World No. 26 Jiri Lehecka overcame Boyer and Walton en route to the Round of 16. At the age of 23, Lehecka already has two titles to his name. In 2025, he won the Brisbane Open trophy in his very first tournament. Lehecka also finished as the runner-up in Queen’s Club, and made the final four in Doha. He wins nearly 85% service games on this surface, which contradicts his mediocre 12-8 record on hard courts in 2025.
The head-to-head record between Shelton and Lehecka stands at 1-0 in favour of the left-handed American. Shelton beat Lehecka in the Stuttgart quarterfinal in 2025, in straight sets. Unfortunately, the then third seed was beaten in the next round by Zverev – the man who awaits the winner of this mouthwatering Cincinnati slugfest.

Shelton looked slightly patchy against Bautista Agut, which is natural considering the amount of tennis he has played in the past fortnight. If Lehecka can adapt to the bounce of Shelton’s top-spin early on, he will be able to trouble the American with his flat groundstrokes. The Czech No. 3 must target Shelton’s backhand and approach the net in order to take control of points.
Prediction: Jiri Lehecka in three sets.
Not to be missed 🙅
