World No. 6 looks to win back-to-back titles ahead of US Open 2025.
Currently on a seven match winning streak, home favourite Ben Shelton takes on an experienced campaigner in Roberto Bautista Agut in the 2025 Cincinnati Open Round of 32 on Tuesday. The Centre Court encounter will determine who advances to face either Lehecka or Walton in the pre-quarterfinals. Having won 14 out of his last 16 matches, Ben Shelton is arguably the most in-form player on the ATP circuit. He is currently on a career-high World No. 6 ranking, and lifted the Canadian Open crown last week. The American southpaw also reached the final in Munich, and semifinals at Stuttgart and the Australian Open. He has gone 19-7 on hard courts this year, which includes an 86% success rate on service games. The 22-year-old is an outer favourite at this year’s US Open and entered this stage after Camilo Ugo retired in Round-2.
A former Grand Slam semifinalist and Top-10 player, Roberto Bautista Agut downed Altmaier and Norrie to reach this stage in Cincinnati. The World No. 53 is yet to drop a set so far this week. RBA has a poor 3-7 record on this surface in 2025. However, the fact that he recently reached a semifinal and quarterfinal on grass will give the 37-year-old a boost of confidence. Unfortunately, Bautista Agut has only managed to amass a poor 42.5% win-loss ratio this year.

Ben Shelton leads the head-to-head against Roberto Bautista Agut by 2-0.
Shelton and Bautista Agut met in two out of the four majors last year, with the American displaying his brute force on both occasions. He is yet to drop a set against his Spanish counterpart on tour – RBA will be hoping that their first meeting at the Masters-1000 level will bring about a change in fortune for him. It is also set to be the second encounter between them on American soil.

Shelton made it clear that he has no intentions of slowing down after his success in Toronto. He will pull out all the tricks in his weaponry against Bautista Agut – fast serves, drop shots, approaches to the net. While the 37-year-old’s ability to hit through the line is second to none, he will need to come up with a Plan-B to counter the deep stance of Shelton. If he continues the one-dimensional game plan, the youngster will outlast him with pace and deception.
Prediction: Ben Shelton in straight sets.
Shelton is a strong favourite to defeat Bautista Agut in the 2025 Cincinnati Masters R32 on Tuesday. The market is inclined towards a straightforward two sets win for the American. According to the implied pre-match probability on the money line, Shelton has an 84% chance of advancing to the Round of 16. Here are all the odds you need to know about (as per BetMGM):
