Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez have made a milestone in their nearly decade-long relationship. They’ve recently announced their engagement. The news broke on Monday when Rodriguez, 31, shared an Instagram photo of a giant oval-cut diamond on her ring finger.
There appeared to be Ronaldo’s hand in the background of the photo. In a translated caption, she seemed to have written, “Yes I do. In this and in all my lives.” The post instantly sparked uproar worldwide, with fans flooding social media with congratulatory messages.
The couple met in 2016 at a Gucci store where Rodriguez worked as a sales assistant. Both have described their first meeting as ‘love at first sight’. They later made their first public appearance together at the 2017 Best FIFA Football Awards in Zurich.
Over the years, Rodriguez has been a constant presence in Ronaldo’s life as he moved from Real Madrid to Juventus. Then back to Manchester United, and now to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Together they share four children.
Three of them were born via surrogacy and one biological daughter. Rodriguez is also stepmother to Ronaldo’s eldest son, Cristiano Jr. In 2017, they welcomed twins Eva Maria and Mateo via surrogacy, followed by daughter Alana later that year.

In April 2022, they suffered the tragic loss of their newborn son, Angel, while his twin sister Bella survived. “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel,” they wrote in a joint statement.
Georgina opened up more about the unfortunate incident, later in her Netflix series ‘I Am Georgina’. She talked about how Ronaldo’s support helped her cope, saying, “Cris really encouraged me to continue with my agenda. He said, ‘Gio, get on with life. It’ll do you good.’”

While no wedding date has been announced or confirmed, Ronaldo has already often referred to Rodriguez as his ‘wife’. Speaking to Piers Morgan in 2019, he called her ‘the greatest love of my life’. He also added, “Why not [get married]? We’ll one day, for sure. It’s my mum’s dream.”
Rodríguez, for her part, has expressed pride in her role, saying “Even though some people label me as ‘the girlfriend of,’ I am very proud to be your wife. I have shown through my personality and my strength that I have my own light,” she told Vogue Arabia.
