Alexander Zverev vs. Flavio Cobolli Preview, Prediction and Betting Odds for the French Open 2025 Round 3

Rudra Dubey

Veteran edge vs. rising heat in the 2025 Roland Garros.

The third seed Alexander Zverev is set to face unseeded Flavio Cobolli today in the third round of the 2025 Roland Garros. The German breezed past Learner Tien in the opener and rallied from a set down to dispatch Jesper de Jong. Cobolli, meanwhile, took out lucky loser Marin Cilic in straight sets before grinding through a four-set thriller against compatriot Matteo Arnaldi, which included a third-set tiebreak.

This marks Flavio’s best run at the French Open so far, while Zverev returns as last year’s finalist, where he ultimately fell to Carlos Alcaraz. Cobolli is enjoying a breakthrough season with titles in Bucharest and Hamburg, whereas Zverev, currently ranked world No. 3, lifted the trophy at the BMW Open.

As they meet for the first time on a court Zverev knows well and Cobolli steps onto for the first time, it’s a classic showdown with the gap between the two. Let’s see how it plays out.

Alexander Zverev vs. Flavio Cobolli Preview

Zverev’s season has been solid but inconsistent. He opened with a runner-up finish in Melbourne, losing to Jannik Sinner, followed by quarterfinals in Argentina and Rio. After a brief lull, he claimed the BMW Open title in Munich, then reached the Rome quarterfinals before falling to Lorenzo Musetti and exited in the round of 16 in Hamburg. Stat-wise, he’s delivered 240 aces, won 74% of first-serve points, and converted 43% of 259 break points.

Cobolli is in a breakthrough year, now ranked a career-high No. 26. He started slow but won his first ATP title in Bucharest, upsetting Sebastian Baez. After one more dip, he took another title in Hamburg, defeating Andrey Rublev. With a 14-12 record, he’s hit 84 aces, won 65% of first-serve points, 34% of first returns, and converted 36% of 204 break points.

Alexander Zverev vs. Flavio Cobolli Prediction

With Zverev’s deeper Slam experience, reliable serve stats, and a recent title in Munich, he enters as the clear favorite. Cobolli’s breakthrough season and statement wins add intrigue, but against a seasoned top-5 player on familiar ground, the edge stays with Zverev. Still, Cobolli’s form can’t be overlooked; if he pulls this off, he cements himself as a true giant killer.

Prediction: Alexander Zverev in straight sets

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
