Devavrat Kulkarni

The 2025 French Open moves ahead to round three action today with Qinwen Zheng, the number 8 seed, taking on Victoria Mboko on court Suzanne-Lenglen. The winner of today’s match will move forward to the round of 16 and will play either Dayana Yastremska or Liudmila Samsonova.

So far, neither Zheng nor Mboko has been truly tested in their first couple of matches at Roland Garros. Zheng came through with straight-set wins against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Emiliana Arango, whereas Mboko, having entered the main draw after three qualifying rounds, also won her first and second round matches in straight sets against Lulu Sun and Eva Lys respectively.

Qinwen Zheng vs Victoria Mboko Preview

The number 8 seed Zheng entered the French Open with a 13-8 record, picked up steam from Indian Wells, making consecutive quarter-final appearances in Miami and Charleston as well. Most recently, she also made it to the semis at the Italian Open with a big win over number 1 Aryna Sabalenka.

This year Zheng has been holding serve well with 70.4% service games won and a very respectable 69.9% points won on her first serve. She has also won nearly 40% of her return games.

18-year-old Mboko is a rising talent on the women’s circuit. Although there is not much to speak about regarding her appearances on the main tour level yet, she has won a total of 5 ITF titles this year. In fact, this Roland Garros marks her debut at the Grand Slam level.

The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
