Brentford Secure Michael Kayode on Permanent Deal After Impressive Loan Spell

Italian U-21 Right-Back Signs Five-Year Contract After Breakthrough Second Half of the Season.

Brentford have completed the permanent signing of right-back Michael Kayode from Fiorentina. The young defender impressed the fans and critics alike during his half-season loan spell. Following that, he has put pen to paper on a five-year deal running until 2030.

The club is also holding the option to extend it by an additional year. Kayode joined the Bees in January 2025 and quickly made a strong impression. He worked his way into Thomas Frank’s starting XI during the final stretch of the Premier League campaign.

He struggled initially with fitness and a knee injury. However, the Italy Under-21 international bounced back and proved himself after the March international break. Considering he is young and is already showing promise, this deal could prove to be quite fruitful for the Bees.

Breakthrough Performances and Key Contributions

The young defender made 12 appearances in total for Brentford. This includes influential starts in the final six matches of the season. He made an immediate impact with his pace and long throw-ins, which became a recurring attacking weapon for the Bees.

Notably, Kayode provided a key assist in Brentford’s dramatic 4-3 win over Manchester United, squaring the ball to Yoane Wissa. He also played a crucial role in the equalising goal against Arsenal when he delivered a pinpoint cross that eventually led to the finish. Reflecting on the move, Kayode said:

“I am so excited to extend my stay at Brentford. I have felt so welcome from the first day I arrived at the club, thanks to my team-mates and the care the coaching staff have shown me. I’ve wanted to play in the Premier League since I was a child and it’s been so good to do that here. I can’t wait for more next season and beyond!”

Club Backing and Future Prospects

Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, was full of praise for the youngster:

“Michael has been fantastic for us since he arrived in January, not only with regards to his performances, but also in terms of his personality and the energy he has brought to the training ground. It was an easy decision to make his transfer permanent this summer, and we look forward to seeing him back for pre-season in July.”

Head coach Thomas Frank echoed those sentiments earlier this month. He called Kayode a ‘fantastic personality’ and praised his work ethic. Kayode’s arrival in January was partly due to the long-term absence of Aaron Hickey. With both now fit, a healthy competition for the right-back spot can be expected.
