Cristiano Ronaldo is rumoured to have an exit from Al-Nassr this summer. With his contract expiring in June 2025 and no extension talks in sight, Ronaldo is likely to join a side participating in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the U.S. next month.

Amid all the exit rumours and transfer talks, for years Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, has expressed her wish of wanting her son back in Portugal with Sporting CP. With Sporting CP’s resurgence and Ronaldo’s unmatched scoring prowess, her heartfelt wish could become reality towards the end of his career.

Dolores Aveiro’s Lifelong Campaign for Ronaldo’s Return to Sporting

Aveiro over the years has stated her wish of bringing Ronaldo to Sporting CP several times. The 40-year-old who started his career at the Lisbon Club in 2002/03 has come a long way after two decades.

Talking in their interview back in 2021, Aveiro expressed a strong desire for Ronaldo to come back to Sporting CP. Mentioning that the football great still follows his boyhood club, Aveiro also said she would like to see her son back before she ‘dies’ as she mentioned,

“Ronaldo has to come back here [to Sporting], for me, he’d be here. He likes to watch Sporting’s games. I’ve already told him: ‘Son, before I die I want to see you return to Sporting’. ‘Let’s see…’, he said, but if it isn’t [him], it’s Cristiano! At his age, he plays better than Ronaldo.”

“I’ll talk to him [Cristiano] to bring him back. Next year he will play in Alvalade [Sporting’s stadium].”

Reacting to her mother’s comments, Ronaldo didn’t deny the move as he said ‘Let’s See’ in 2021. Moreover, Cristiano Jr. who made his first appearance for Portugal U15 recently could also benefit from this move. Talking about wanting to see Ronaldo and her grandson in the same jersey, Aveiro said:

“He’s already said, ‘Dad when we go to live in Lisbon I want to play for Sporting.’ Seeing the two of them playing together at the club would be my dream.”

Other than these quotes, Aveiro has kept it no secret, that her wish for CR7 back in a Sporting Jersey. Mentioning it over the past decade or since his time at Real Madrid, Ronaldo’s mother could finally see her campaign come through.

With Sporting CP’s participation in the Club World Cup and a possible opening at the striker position, every door seems to be pointing towards Lisbon for Ronaldo. Ronaldo has been the highest-paid athlete in the world for two straight years. With Al-Nassr providing him with lavish wages, fulfilling his mother’s dream could cost his pockets a significant dip as he aims to be at the Club World Cup.
