Ruben Amorim Apologises to Manchester United Fans for ‘Disaster Season’

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has publicly apologised to the club’s supporters following a disappointing season that saw the Red Devils record their lowest-ever Premier League finish. Speaking directly to fans at Old Trafford after a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day, Amorim addressed the pain of a campaign that ended with United in 15th place and without European football for the first time in over a decade.

The apology came just days after United’s crushing 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in Bilbao. That loss compounded an already dismal season both on and off the pitch. With unrest around the club’s ownership and fan protests, the atmosphere surrounding Old Trafford has been one of frustration. Overall, it has turned out to be one of the most disappointing campaigns in the club’s modern history.

I Want To Apologise for This Season: Amorim

The Red Devil’s failure to win the Europa League not only denied United a route back into the Champions League but will also likely impact their summer transfer activity. Speaking after United’s final game of the season, Amorim said,

“First of all, I want to apologise for this season. I know you are really disappointed in me and in the team. I want to say thank you, we are very grateful for your support during the season and I know it was really hard to support us in many games.

“But now we have to make a choice or we stay stuck in the past because this season is in the past — it’s over. We fight each other or we stick together and move forward.”

Earlier in the week, Amorim had offered to resign following the Europa League final loss. However, his speech suggested a renewed commitment to rebuilding the Manchester United team next season. Reflecting on his early days at the club, Amorim reminded fans of his warning upon arrival at Old Trafford. Amorim also offered a personal apology to his squad, acknowledging that he wasn’t always fair to the players but tried to be honest in his approach.

Amorim’s speech ended on a hopeful note as he said, “If there is one club in the world that proves in the past that can overcome any situation, any disaster, it is our club, Manchester United Football Club. Thank you very much. See you next season.”
