Manchester United are on their way to Bilbao to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday. Ahead of a season filled with downfalls, manager Ruben Amorim has realised the campaign is below par.

The Portuguese manager commented on the season as he said he recognises that even winning the Europa League wouldn’t be enough. However, coming into the finals, Amorim has expressed confidence in his squad and fans to take Manchester United in the UEL.

Amorim’s Ambition Beyond the Europa League

Manchester United cruised past Athletic Club in the semi-final to enter the finals of the UEL. Steaming on confidence, the Red Devils have relied on their captain, Bruno Fernandes, to deliver at times. However, expressing the excitement, Amorim, in his terms, this occasion was as important as speaking in the pre-match conference, as he said:

“We are fine,” reassured Ruben. “Preparing for the game. I think you can feel it in Carrington, we’re very excited about the final. It’s really important, massive for us, and we want to give that to our fans.”

“I feel it’s a mixed feeling [for me]. I’m excited, but at the same time, I know my responsibility as a Manchester United coach. I have always had that feeling of frustration for the season, so I want badly to help the team win the final. We’ve got to give something to the club, to the fans, to the staff, to everybody.

Manchester United will play their first UEL final since 2021. Losing 11-10 on penalties to Villareal, the Red Devils will aim to clinch the Champions League spot by going through against their country rivals, the Spurs.

Ahead of the UEL finals, Amorim said it won’t be enough to win the competition for the given support this season. Applauding the fans and wanting to give his best. Amorim, in his conference, continued,

“It’s not enough, winning the Europa League. It’s not enough for all the support they [the fans gave us this season. With our fans, it’s not a surprise for me – they will go swimming if needed to, even without a ticket! I already know.”

“A big thank you for everything they did during the season. We will do our best to give something to them.”

Manchester United will seek their first win against Tottenham Hotspur in six games. Having conceded eight goals in the past three games, United hasn’t won against the Lilywhites since 2022.
