NFL Analyst Questioned if Dak Prescott is Still Amongst the Elite NFL Quarterbacks

Eric Divakaran

Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys’ cornerstone quarterback, has built a formidable NFL resume since his 2016 draft, where he has prolific regular season stats, but with persistent postseason shortcomings that may keep him out of the top-5 or even top-10 quarterback tier despite his record- breaking contract. Most notably in 2023, Dak Prescott had arguably his best season, throwing for 4,516 passing yards, a league-high 36 touchdowns, on only 9 interceptions, earning second-team All-Pro honors and finishing as MVP runner-up. His career 66.8% completion rate and 99.2 passer rating since 2021 reflects his precision and efficiency, making him a reliable offensive engine for the Cowboys.

In 2024, however, his play regressed quite a bit, with a 3-4 start, 8 interception on 8 games, and he also suffered a season-ending injury exposing a lot of vulnerabilities. Even if you take a look at the other seasons that Prescott’s played in, his playoff struggles have sadly defined his narrative as a quarterback. While his regular-season consistency and leadership justify his massive contract, Prescott’s postseason failure and occasional lapses in big-games adds fuel to the skepticism about his elite QB status.

Recently an NFL analyst questioned Dak Prescott’s elite quarterback status and here is what he said.

NFL Analyst Chris Simms Believes That Dak Prescott is Nowhere Near the Top-5 Quarterback Status

NFL analyst, Chris Simms, questioned if Dak Prescott is even a top-5 quarterback in the Up and Adams show with Kay Adams. He said, “I don’t want to say he’s holding them (Cowboys) back, but he is the highest paid player in football, and I would say he’s not near the top five quarterback in football. Is he even a top-10 quarterback? I don’t know about that either. Can Dak Prescott and that offense in the passing game hold it down for them? I think those are things that I look at.”

Apart from Chris Simms, various other NFL analyst and fans have argued that his stats, while impressive, don’t translate to winning or defining moments, and his 2024 dip raised further questions, basically calling Prescott’s numbers empty stats. To crack the top-5 conversation, Prescott needs to deliver in the playoffs, and prove he can elevate his game under pressure, which is a challenge that has continued to haunt the highest paid QB in the NFL.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
