Kelsey Plum Drops Huge 37-Point Game As Los Angeles Sparks Spoil WNBA Debut for the Golden State Valkyries

Los Angeles Sparks point guard Kelsey Plum dropped 37 points as the side registered an 84-67 win over the Golden State Valkyries, who were making their WNBA debut. Playing her first game for the Sparks, Plum came up with 37 points, two rebounds, and six assists, leading the side to a remarkable start in the latest edition of the league. Notably, the two-time WNBA champion was involved in a three-team trade before the season, which landed her to Sparks from the Las Vegas Aces.

Apart from Plum, Dearcia Hamby came up with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist, while Rickea Jackson finished with 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists. They had Rae Burrell leaving the game within one minute of action with a knee injury.

On the other hand, the Valkyries, who became the 13th franchise of the WNBA, had Tiffany Hayes scoring 19 points, nine rebounds, and one assist. Temi Fagbenle came up with 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Julie Vanloo chipped in 14 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

The Sparks were shooting 46.0% from the field, while the Valkyries were shooting 36.5% from the field. On the other hand, Golden State dominated Los Angeles while shooting from the free-throw line with 92.3% as compared to their 90.5%.

Kelsey Plum Scripts WNBA History as Sparks Take Down Valkyries in Season Opener

The three-time WNBA All-Star scripted league history as she dropped 37 points, two rebounds, and six assists to lead the Sparks to their season-opening win against the Valkyries. With this, she became the first WNBA player to have 35+ points, 5 assists and 5 steals in a single game.

Not only this, but she also broke the record of Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier, which she created by dropping 34 points, four rebounds, and four assists during their season-opener against the Dallas Wings. Collier tied with legends like Maya Moore, Candace Parker, and Katie Smith for the most points in a season opener. However, with her 37 points, Plum surpassed them and now holds the record for most points in an opener.
