Jusuf Nurkić
Jusuf Nurkić, often called by the nickname “the Bosnian Beast,” is a professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Born on August 23, 1994, in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nurkić stands at an impressive 2.11 meters (6 feet 11 inches) and weighs 132 kg (290 lb), playing as a center. Nurkić’s professional basketball journey began in Europe, notably with Cedevita from 2012 to 2014, including a stint with Zadar in 2013. He gained recognition for his formidable presence on the court, which set the stage for his entry into the NBA. His NBA career officially began in the 2014 NBA draft. Nurkić was selected as the 16th overall pick in the first round by the Chicago Bulls. However, he was traded to the Denver Nuggets on draft night, where he signed his rookie contract on July 31, 2014. He played for the Denver Nuggets from 2014 to 2017. After his time with the Nuggets, Nurkić was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he played from 2017 to 2023. During his time with the Trail Blazers, he established himself as a key player, known for his rebounding, defense, and passing abilities for a player of his position. In the 2023-2025 period, Nurkić played for the Phoenix Suns, further contributing to his NBA experience. Following his stint with the Suns, he had a brief spell with the Charlotte Hornets in 2025. As of 2025, Nurkić is currently playing for the Utah Jazz. Throughout his career, he has represented the Bosnia and Herzegovina senior national team in international competitions. In his earlier career in Croatia, he was a Croatian League champion and Croatian League Finals MVP in 2014, and also secured a spot on the All-Croatian League Second Team in the same year.
