No More Undefeated: 2025 Proves Brutal for UFC’s Unbeaten Fighters

One by one, the UFC’s unbeaten warriors are falling, and 2025 is shaping up to be the a hard year for these fighters!

An undefeated record shines like gold in MMA. Fighters guard their perfect records with everything they have got. That zero at the end means something special. It builds mystique, draws fans, and often leads to bigger paychecks. The marketing machine loves unbeaten fighters like Khabib Nurmagomedov or Floyd Mayweather whose legacies were defined partly by never tasting defeat. UFC promoters know this well, often building entire fight cards around showcasing their undefeated prospects.

But 2025 has been downright cruel to the UFC’s perfect records. That precious “0” has fallen for many. The first five months of the year have seen an unprecedented number of undefeated fighters lose their spotless records. Some were prospects still building their names. Others were established contenders on the verge of title shots. Yet they all share one thing in common now. They have learned that in this unforgiving sport, perfection rarely lasts forever. Let us take a look at the fighters that lost their undefeated record in the first half of 2025.

Umar Nurmagomedov (18-1)

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cousin carried the weight of the Nurmagomedov legacy into his UFC 311 title shot against Merab Dvalishvili. With an 18-0 record and the family name, many expected Umar to follow in his famous cousin’s footsteps. But ‘The Machine’ had other plans. Dvalishvili’s relentless pace and pressure led to a unanimous decision victory. The Georgian champion even showboated with some dance moves after taking Umar down.

Shara Magomedov (15-1)

The one-eyed Russian striker captured fans’ attention with his flashy style and unique backstory. After winning his first three UFC bouts, Magomedov faced Michael ‘Venom’ Page in Saudi Arabia. The fight promised fireworks. Instead, Page put on a technical masterclass. He kept the Russian at range all night. ‘Bullet’ couldn’t solve the puzzle of MVP’s unorthodox movement. The judges scored it unanimously for Page, handing Magomedov his first professional defeat.

Tatiana Suarez (10-1)

Many considered Tatiana Suarez the female Khabib. Her wrestling pedigree seemed unstoppable. After battling back from career-threatening injuries, she finally got her title shot against Weili Zhang at UFC 312. The long-awaited opportunity turned sour quickly. Zhang showed why she is the champion. She stuffed takedowns and dominated the striking exchanges. Suarez left with a nasty face cut requiring extensive stitches and her first professional loss.

Payton Talbott (8-1)

The hype train for Payton Talbott was moving at full speed. But his opponent at UFC 311, Raoni Barcelos didn’t get the memo. The Brazilian veteran dominated all three rounds. He exposed holes in Talbott’s game that previous opponents had overlooked.

Bo Nickal (7-1)

Perhaps the biggest upset of them all. The wrestling phenom entered his fight against former ONE Championship double-champ Reinier de Ridder with massive expectations. Penn State wrestling pedigree. Perfect 7-0 record. None of that mattered when Reinier De Ridder connected with a devastating knee to Nickal’s liver. The previously unstoppable prospect crumpled to the canvas. The golden boy had fallen!

Carlos Prates (21-7)

Despite not being undefeated in his career, Prates was an undefeated prospect in the UFC. He was on a 4 fight winning streak with all of those coming by finish. But all that changed when he faced Ian Garry, who himself lost his 0 last December. The Irish fighter took his UFC ‘0’ with a unanimous decision.

A Growing List Of Other Fighters Losing Their 0

The carnage extends well beyond these big names. Austin Bashi dropped a decision to Christian Rodriguez in the very first UFC card of 2025. Rinya Nakamuraabandoned his grappling against Muin Gafurov and paid the price. Danny Barlow’s hype train derailed when Sam Patterson knocked him out cold at UFC Vegas 103.

As the year continues, more perfect records will surely fall. That is the beauty and brutality of this sport. No matter how good you are, someone is always waiting to test your chin, your cardio, or your heart.
