Devin Haney versus Jose Ramirez is set to headline Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, the first-ever professional boxing event held in New York’s Times Square, on May 2, 2025. The card, produced in partnership with The Ring magazine, also features Ryan Garcia vs. Rolly Romero and Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza Jr. But all eyes are on the potential storm brewing between Haney and Garcia.

Haney’s upcoming bout against former unified champion Jose Ramírez comes a year after his last bout with Garcia in April 2024. Though Garcia scored three knockdowns and won by majority decision, he was 3.2 pounds overweight and ineligible for Haney’s WBC super lightweight title. The fight moved forward due to a weight wager but was later ruled a no contest after Garcia tested positive for ostarine, leading to his one-year suspension and a $1.1 million fine.

Devin Haney’s Boxing Journey

Devin Haney, the former undisputed lightweight champion (2022-2023) and WBC super lightweight titleholder (2023-2024), began his boxing journey at just seven years old. He turned pro in December 2015, scoring a TKO over Gonzalo Lopez in his debut.

Now 31-0 with one no-contest, Haney’s last outing, a controversial bout against Ryan Garcia, was ultimately ruled void following Garcia’s failed drug test. Even after being knocked down three times, Haney retained his unbeaten status.

Jose Ramirez’s Boxing Journey

Jose Ramirez, the former unified WBC and WBO light welterweight champion, held both titles from 2018 to 2021, building his name on relentless pressure and grit. Before turning pro, Ramírez had an impressive amateur career, capturing two Jr. Olympic National Championships, a Jr. Golden Gloves title, and the U.S. National Amateur Lightweight crown.

Ramirez made his professional debut in December 2012 with a TKO win over Corey Seigwarth and racked up 26 straight victories. That streak ended in 2021 with a unanimous decision loss to Josh Taylor, costing him both belts. Ramírez most recently faced Arnold Barboza Jr. in November 2024, suffering another unanimous decision loss.
