San Francisco 49ers Injury Update- 49ers Safety Could Miss the Start of the 2025 Season

Just after the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft, where the San Francisco 49ers had 11 picks and drafted great pieces like Georgia’s Mykel Williams, and Alfred Collins who played for the Longhorns, the 49ers were hit with a bad news, that could derail the start of their NFL Season in 2025. 49ers safety’ Malik Mustapha, will most likely miss the start of the 2025 season, according to NFL Insider Adam Schefter, as he tore his ACL during 49ers’ final regular season game, which has kept him out ever since.

When Will Malik Mustapha Return To Play?

Malik Mustapha suffered a right knee ACL injury during the second quarter of the final game against the Arizona Cardinals. The injury, caused by being cleated, is connected to a previous ACL tear he suffered, on the same knee, while at Wake Forest in January of 2022, from which he recovered to to play 10 games the following year.

As far as his return is concerned, various sources state that Mustapha may not be available until the middle of the 2025 season, which is costly for the 49ers, as they Talanoa Hufanga to the Denver Broncos during the NFL Free Agency.

Who Could Replace Mustapha Until He Returns?

The 49ers drafted safety Marques Sigle in the fifth round as the 160th overall pick, from the 2025 NFL Draft. And he could very well be the next best option that the 49ers have for now, at the safety spot.

It was Mustapha’s first season last year in 2024, and he finished his season with 72 combined tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and an interception, on 16 total games played on 12 starts.
