Following her victory over Viktoriya Tomova at the Madrid Open, Alexandra Eala sets up a rematch in the second round against her Miami Open opponent and World number 2, Iga Swiatek. The Filipino star won her first-round match quite comfortably, dispatching Tomova in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in 1 hour and 16 minutes.

Upcoming talent who is just 19 years of age, Eala has shown some impressive tennis of late, making it to the semi-finals of the Miami Open less than a month back. During her spectacular run, she defeated World number 5, Madison Keys, as well as Swiatek, while suffering a tightly-contested loss to Jessica Pegula. Eala, who started the year ranked 147th, has risen through the ranks swiftly and now finds herself at number 72.

On the other hand, no introduction is necessary for the 5-time Grand Slam Champion, Iga Swiatek. Ranked 2nd in the world, Swiatek has struggled to find her feet this year and is yet to win a title in 2025. With only one head-to-head match between the two, there is not much to go on here, however, Swiatek is too good a player not to be able to find a way around her younger opponent. Furthermore, the match will be played on clay, which is by far the Polish star’s best surface, and it could be an added advantage in her favor.
