Reigning champions Andrey Rublev and Iga Swiatek are all set to defend their crown, as the 2025 Mutua Madrid Open kicks off. The tournament is taking place between April 22 and May 4, 2025. Southpaws Rafael Nadal and Petra Kvitova are the most illustrious singles athletes at this event – with 5 titles and 3 titles respectively.

The top seeds begin with a bye in Round-1 of Madrid. World No. 2 Alexander Zverev is likely to face Roberto Bautista Agut, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Arthur Fils and Andrey Rublev if he is to reach the semifinals. Meanwhile, No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz has to possibly carve his route past Zizou Bergs, Jiri Lehecka, Grigor Dimitrov and Alex de Minaur to make the final four.

An underdog at the event, Taylor Fritz has a potential Round-2 against Camilo Ugo, followed by Hubert Hurkacz, Casper Ruud and either Barcelona champion Holger Rune or Daniil Medvedev. Moving to the ever-so-scrutinised Novak Djokovic, his path to the semis includes Matteo Arnaldi, Sebastian Baez, Frances Tiafoe and Jack Draper.

2024 finalists Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek are the favourites to book a rematch at this year’s summit clash. Sabalenka is looking for another trophy after falling short in Stuttgart, and starts against a qualifier. Elise Mertens, Amanda Anisimova and Zheng Qinwen/Paula Badosa will stand in her way of the semifinals. In the last four will be Jessica Pegula – who faces Eva Lys, Ons Jabeur, Daria Kasatkina and Jasmine Paolini.

For Swiatek, numerous 2025 rematches are on the cards. In Round-2, Alexandra Eala; in Round-4, Jelena Ostapenko; in the QFs, Madison Keys.
