2025 Stuttgart Open Victory and new Porsche Keys- Jelena Ostapenko takes down World Number 1 Aryna Sabalenka!

Ostapenko won her ninth career title by defeating the world's top two players in the semifinals and finals.

Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia outclassed world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 6-1 in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2025 final to claim her first title of the season and her 9th WTA trophy. Sabalenka was looking to lift her first title at the event after three previous failed attempts and didn’t drop a single set throughout the competition. However, the streak was ended against the Latvian rival in the finals.

Sabalenka, a two-time Grand Slam winner, defeated Jasmine Paolini 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinals to reach her fifth final of the year. Meanwhile, Ostapenko surprised world No. 2 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals and beat Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets to reach the final. The Latvian ace lost the previous three games against Sabalenka and ended the losing streak in the Stuttgart finals.

Jelena Ostapenko Stuns Aryna Sabalenka in Straight Sets to Win Porsche Tennis Grand Prix Title

Ostapenko, a former Roland Garros champion, turned back the clock on clay and won the opening set 6-4. The Latvian ace was in great control in the second set and sparked a run of 14 points in 17 to knock Sabalenka out of the contest. Ostapenko broke the three-time major champion four times in the set and won 20 of the last 24 points in the match.

Ostapenko won her ninth career title by defeating the world’s top two players in the semifinals and finals. It was the third instance in the same year when a player beat world No. 1 and No. 2 to lift the trophy. Previously, Madison Keys and Mirra Andreeva did the same in the Australian Open and Indian Wells, respectively, this year.

Ostapenko, who had a 0-3 record against Sabalenka showed a pure dominance on clay. She has won last 4 matches she has played against top 5 players. It was her first clay court title since 2017 French Open. She entered the loaded WTA 500 tournament with a 7-9 record this year and beat players like Iga Swiatek and Aryana Sabalenka.

Aryna Sabalenka Plans to Purchase Porsche Car After Losing Final

Aryna Sabalenka is known for his witty and fun personality. She joked about her misfortune at Stuttgart Open in her latest attempt to win the exclusive prize. She failed to win a £97,000 electric Porsche on last three attempts and came close to win it this year. However, Ostapenko had different plans.

The Belarusian ace said that the only way she is able to get her hands on Porsche is by buying it, rather than by winning the tournament. It was Sabalenka’s fourth consecutive defeat in the Stuttgart Open final.

During the post-game interview, Sabalenka said, “I want to congratulate Jelena and her team on a great week. You played really great this week and you were a better player than me today. That’s just about it. Well done and enjoy driving this beautiful car! I’m glad I can afford this car. After this final, we’re gonna order one because I guess this is the only way for me!”

Sabalenka was keen to finally get her hands on Porsche car. She said ahead of the tournament: “I lost three finals here against No. 1s. So I was, like, ‘Okay I have to do it. I have to come back here as the world No. 1’. I want to finally win the Porsche this year.”

Sabalenka and Ostapenko will now focus on the Madrid Open, where the WTA main draw begins April 22. It will be an opportunity for the Belarusian to take the revenge and improve her record on clay ahead of Roland Garros.
