The Chinese Grand Prix gave Haas F1 their best performance in the first few races of the season. Yet, when the only American team of F1 arrived in Bahrain, they were able to capitalise on the pace. Haas has been showing good speed in almost all four races this season. Haas F1 had a terrible season last year. Although, things might have taken a turn for good this year.

Immediately, we can see that Haas F1 is better than most other teams when it comes to racing in the midfield this year. They are not dead last and often they are able to secure a good start on the grid. The 2025 Bahrain GP was a bit harsh for Haas. After both of their drivers failed to make an appearance in Q3, Haas F1 team was in a tight spot this weekend.

Nevertheless, the combined efforts of Haas F1 this weekend allowed them to secure their second double-point finish in the 2025 F1 season in the first four races. Haas F1 are now fifth in the constructor standings with 20 points to their name. They are already up to a good start in 2025. Now, it’s a matter of waiting if Haas can continue to be better this season or will they end up getting overtaken by other teams.

Esteban Ocon and Haas F1 Pull Off a Surprise Recovery

Esteban Ocon was looking good during the first two runs of the qualifying session yesterday. Haas F1 was directly competing against Williams this weekend. Ocon ended up committing a slight mistake in the last moments of Q2 which sent him spinning into the wall. Esteban Ocon suffered a terrible crash. Although, he did manage to keep his position in the Q2 runs, Ocon was unable to move forward to Q3.

Furhtermore, his engineers had to pull off a lot of work in order to fix his car before the race on Sunday. Esteban Ocon had a lot of things to care of in order to provide points for his team at Bahrain International Circuit. Esteban Ocon immediately started climbing the grid after the race started. He made use of his car’s pace and undercuts during the pitstop to overtake the drivers ahead of him.

During the safety car restart, Ocon was able to cling to his top-10 finish until the end of the race. He defended against cars much better than his. As a result, Esteban Ocon finished in P8 for the race.

Oliver Bearman Finishes in the Top-10

Oliver Bearman has been inconsistent in the Qualifying sessions this year. Sometimes, his pace appears to be better than his teammate and sometimes he just gets knocked out in Q1. Bearman was the sole point scorer for Haas last week. He finished 10th in the race to pick up some crucial points for the team. This weekend, Bearman could not do much in the Qualifying again. He started the race in 10th position.

Oliver Bearman has been showing insane race pace in the first races of the season. As soon as he was off the line, Bearman started picking off racers one by one. By the time the first pitstops had ended, Bearman was already running for points. He dropped down the grid after his pit stops. Although, Oliver Bearman claimed his moment to shine during the safety car period.

Haas F1 chose to bolt on some soft tyres on Oliver Bearman. And the soft tyres were unstoppable this weekend. Bearman surged through the entirety of the field to claim the last position in the top-10. He also defended against fellow rookie, Kimi Antonelli in order to complete his bid for the one point from 10th position. He was our pick for the Driver of the Day this weekend.

How is Haas Managing to Get Better than its Competitors?

Haas F1 have managed to harmonise their drivers and create good strategies for them even when things are looking grim. Kudos to Ayao Komatsu for bringing such radical changes in the team. They were able to do what other teams couldn’t this weekend. There’s no doubt about the fact that Haas F1’s strategy in Bahrain was much more superior compared to others.

If we put Haas and the other midfielders on a same scale, what’s interesting is, Haas actually lacks a lot of raw pace. Williams and Racing Bulls are simply too fast in comparison. Yet, the way their team is operating under their new team principal is actually working wonders for their championship contention. Haas F1 are in a good position on the current championship standings too. They are only behind the four front-runner teams of the 2025 F1 season.

The upcoming race in Jeddah should be a race Haas will look forward to. They only need to address the underlying issues in their qualifying pace. Other than that, Haas F1 is set to becoming the best midfield team on the grid this year.
