Ederson Injury Update: Has Manchester City Taken a Knock at the Crucial Moment of the Season?

Ederson bagged his fourth assist of the Premier League this season before getting subbed off.

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson was subbed off around the 70-minute mark due to injury. In what looked like an ankle injury, the Brazilian had to leave the pitch after stretching following a pass. It looked like a discomforting walk back as he was replaced by Stefan Ortega.

Ederson has started 21 games for Pep Guardiola this season. Taking a knock at the critical stages where Manchester City looks to clinch a top-four finish could prove damaging. Although many details about Ederson’s injury aren’t out, it looked like a muscle stretch from his discomfort.

The Brazilian keeper also set up Manchester City’s fourth goal with an exquisite pass from his half. Ederson now has four assists in the Premier League this season. Manchester City completed a thumping comeback after going down by two goals in the first half. Finishing with five goals to Palace’s two, Guardiola and his team looked at their typical best.

On being asked about the injury situation on Ederson, Guardiola expressed he didn’t have much clue in as he said: “I don’t know. He made the pass and said he felt something and couldn’t continue.”

Being told that with the assist Ederson provided he became the all-time highest on the assist by any goalkeeper chart, Guardiola terms the achievement as “unbelievable.” He mentioned how great a pass Ederson has on him which Manchester City man shows time and time.

Kevin De Bruyne who was at the heart of City’s comeback, received a cheerful walk back. Grabbing a goal and an assist, the Belgian was a constant threat especially since Manchester City went down.

The Cityzens will sleep better after today’s performance as their side chase European qualifications. Leading Chelsea by two points with a game more played, every fixture is like a final for them.

Ederson will be hoped to have a minor discomfort as the test reports are still awaited. Losing their first-choice goalkeeper’s presence could turn out to be a blow for Guardiola. Ortega who has had numerous cameos as Ederson’s replacement in his career, will be looked upon if it comes to it.

Manchester City completed their 16th win the Premier League this season. Pundits and fans saw the best of Guardiola’s team they’ve seen all season. With clubs like Chelsea, Newcastle United and Aston Villa chasing them, Manchester City’s comeback win on Saturday could be a statement.
