Southampton vs. Aston Villa Premier League – Injury News, Match Preview and Predicted Line-Ups

Abhinav Goel

Aston Villa are one of the Premier League’s most in-form teams, having won their last three league matches.

After a 3-1 defeat against PSG in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal, Aston Villa turn their focus back to domestic duties. Villa travel to the south coast on Saturday afternoon for a Premier League clash with Southampton, who suffered the fastest relegation in the Premier League history last week. Southampton parted ways with manager Ivan Juric. The club will now see out the remainder of the season under interim boss Simon Rusk, with Adam Lallana serving as his assistant.

Aston Villa are one of the Premier League’s most in-form teams, having won their last three league matches. Their most recent outing saw them defeat Nottingham Forest 2-1 to boost their hopes of a top six finish. Villa now sit just two points off the top five. Securing all three points will be Unai Emery’s top priority as he looks to keep his side firmly in the hunt for European football.

Southampton Injury News

Southampton have an almost fully fit squad with Charlie Taylor (hip) and Albert Gronbaek (tendon) the only absentees. Southampton will also be without midfielder Flynn Downes, who serves the second game of his two-match ban. As a result, Joe Aribo looks set to continue alongside Lesley Ugochukwu in the midfield.

With Donyell Malen and Andres Garcia ineligible to play in Champions League, both are expected to feature in the starting lineup here. Emery may also rotate further, with Amadou Onana, Tyrone Mings, and Ian Maatsen all in contention to come back into the XI.
