Rapper Drake Dropped Another Bet on Alexander Volkanovski – Will the Drake Curse Strike at UFC 314?

Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski is set to take on Diego Lopes for the vacant featherweight title, after champion Ilia Topuria vacated the featherweight division and the belt, to move on to the lightweight division. Volkanovski is coming off of recent losses against Ilia Topuria, Islam Makhachev twice. However, nobody else has been able to get a win against them so far.

If there was ever any doubt about his greatness as a fighter, he’s taken down Max Holloway three times in his career. Volk has also beaten Chad Mendes, Jose Aldo, Brian Ortega and more. He’s 26-4-0 is his MMA career and has already cemented himself as one of the best fighters of all time. According to BetMGM, Volk is a -170 favorite to win the fight, whereas Lopes is the +115 underdog.

Drake’s Massive Bet Fuels Talk of the Curse Ahead of Volkanovski’s Fight

Rapper Drake is one of the biggest musical artists in the world and he also happens to be pretty passionate about sports and specifically the betting aspect of many sports. This time Drake has betted $545,000 on Alexander Volkanovski to win the fight against Diego Lopes at UFC 314, but most fans will not be happy to hear this news. Why? Many fans believe that the fighter or the team Drake chooses from other sport, is doomed to be hit with the Drake curse. Let us explain what the Drake Curse is all about.

What is the Drake Curse?

In simple words, history suggests that whenever Drake bets on a fighter, that particular fighter tends to lose the fight more often than not. Hence, the infamous “Drake Curse.” Therefore, many fans believe that Volkanovski may lose the fight tomorrow, now that Drake has bet $545K on him.

Drake has bet on 23 fights so far and has only won 9 of his 23 bets so far in the UFC. He’s lost 14 wagers so far and that gives him a success rate of only 39.1 % so far. Some of the most notable fighters that were affected by the Drake curse was Israel Adesanya, Aljamain Sterling, Sean Strickland, and Kamaru Usman, to name a few.

When Izzy was supposed to face Alex Pereira at UFC 281, Drake had bet $1.5 million on Izzy. However, Poatan defeated Izzy and many fans believe that Drake was one of the many reasons why. Another example would be the fight between Usman and Leon Edwards where Drake betted on Usman to KO Edwards, however, Drake was unsuccessful again and lost out on $149,000 that he had placed as his wager.

While Drake has won few of his bets in the past, fans are now worried about if the Drake curse will strike another great fighter, yet again, at UFC 314.
