Barcelona Still Improving: Hansi Flick Urges Caution After Thrashing Borussia Dortmund

Barcelona delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday night, thrashing Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal clash. The Spanish giants were in complete control from start to finish, with their clinical finishing leaving the German side with little hope.

Barcelona have been the most prolific side in this season’s Champions League, racking up an impressive 36 goals. At the heart of their attacking brilliance is a lethal front three of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and teenager Lamine Yamal. Together, they’ve formed a dynamic trio that constantly keeps defenses on edge. Wednesday’s performance was one of Barcelona’s most commanding displays under manager Hansi Flick, who has quickly stamped his identity on the team.

Flick was full of praise for his team’s all-round performance, especially the attacking display led by Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker struck twice against his former club after Raphinha had set the tone of the match with an early opener. Lamine Yamal also got on the scoresheet, sealing a comprehensive 4-0 win for Barcelona.

“Lewandowski, Yamal and Raphinha are brilliant and very important for us, but so is our defence and those who come in from the bench,” Flick said in the press conference after the match.

However, despite the emphatic victory, Flick was quick to shut down any talk of complacency. Speaking after the match, he made it clear that the job was far from over.

”No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no… We are definitely not qualified yet! You never know what’s going to happen because football is just a crazy sport,” Flick said.

“To advance we have to play in Dortmund like we did today, without making mistakes. We played very well and when you play like that you score goals, which is what happened.”

Barcelona will aim to carry their Champions League momentum into La Liga where they travel to Leganes on April 13. Barca currently lead Real Madrid by four points in a tight title race.
