Greatest F1 Battles in Bahrain- Duels in the Desert!

Rohan Singh

Formula 1 has a record of stunning driver battles in Bahrain GP.

The Bahrain Grand Prix is the third race of Formula 1 2025 season. F1 battles in Bahrain are the epitome of racing in the desert. The high temperature, racing under the lights, everything creates an electric atmosphere for the drivers. Bahrain is known for its extreme temperatures and drivers find it difficult to navigate through the race.

The Bahrain GP has seen its fair share of winners in Formula 1 racing. There are some battles which shall remain etched in the hearts of Formula 1 fans forever when F1 visits Bahrain for racing. In a compilation of these ecstatic moments, we present Greatest F1 Battles in Bahrain-

Hamilton vs Rosberg- 2014

The first Bahrain GP of turbo-hybrid era couldn’t have been less exciting. The two title contenders started in the front row. Hamilton and Rosberg engaged in a fight for the lead from turn 1 itself. The entire race was a fight for the lead between the Silver Arrows.

Hamilton and Rosberg had an exchange of leads numerous times during the race. Lewis Hamilton won the race over Nico Rosberg. Mercedes got yet another 1-2 finish marking the start of their dominance in the turbo-hybrid era.

Alonso vs Schumacher- 2006

The first race of the 2006 F1 season was a battle of domination between Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher. Alonso immediately jumped up the grid attacking pole-sitter Schumacher from second place. Michael Schumacher was unable to find a good pace. Alonso on the other hand nearly got caught in an accident with Massa. Alonso was considerably faster than Schumacher throughout the race.

After his mandatory pit-stop, Fernando Alonso basically dragged his car as fast as he could out of the pits. His efforts worked and he took the lead from Michael Schumacher, to end up winning the race. He celebrated the victory with a special move. Alonso’s dance is one of the most memorable moments of his career.

Leclerc vs Verstappen- 2022

Ferrari was the fastest car at the start of the 2022 F1 season. The new regulations helped them gain an advantage over their rivals and the Red Bulls. Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc defined the entire race with a massive fight for the lead. Verstappen kept attacking Leclerc, but the Monegasque escaped with DRS again and again.

At the ending stage of the race, Verstappen lost his ERS system and lost his second place too. The race ended with a 1-2 finish for Scuderia Ferrari. Ferrari ended up throwing their race victory, later on with numerous driver and strategy errors.

Vettel vs Raikkonen- 2012

Sebastian Vettel was defending his championship after winning two titles in Formula 1 in the previous years. He started on pole position but little did he know what was about to come. Kimi Raikkonen made his return to Formula 1 with the Lotus F1 team. Raikkonen did not have a good position in the grid start.

However, Raikkonen made up for his bad qualifying by overtaking as many drivers as he could in succession. Kimi Raikkonen was faster than Sebastian Vettel throughout his charge to second place. He bullied Vettel’s Red Bull to the brink until the chequered flag came out. Kimi Raikkonen lost the race victory to Sebastian Vettel but made headlines with his incredibly fast performance.

Button vs Perez- 2013

Sometimes, Bahrain Grand Prix is not just about the one who wins. In 2013, the McLarens driven by Sergio Perez and Jenson Button gave the entire grid goosebumps with their performance. They switched around their cars consistently during the race. Nico Rosberg kept trying to find his way ahead of the McLarens. However, he could not manage to defeat the duo of Button and Perez.

Sergio Perez was in no mood to let Jenson Button lead the team. He kept having a go at Button’s car until he clipped his front wing while attacking Jenson Button. Button furiously asked the team to calm down Perez’s over-aggressive advances. But no matter what, Perez was having none of it. He fought Button hard during the entire race.

Webber vs Alonso- 2004

Mark Webber and his Aussie Grit were competing against Fernando Alonso in 2004 at Bahrain. One thing was clear, Webber’s Jaguar just didn’t have enough to compete with Alonso. Webber was alone fending for himself in an inferior car. But the Aussie had some tricks up his sleeve for Alonso. As Alonso’s Renault screamed angrily at Webber, he appeared to slow down in front.

Mark Webber’s brake check slowed down Alonso considerably. Fernando Alonso got past Mark Webber in the end when Webber committed a slight mistake in Turn-1. However, the commentators could not stop talking about Mark Webber’s less than innocent antics during the race.

Verstappen vs Hamilton- 2021

The Formula 1 2021 season was memorable for this duo’s on track battles. The Bahrain GP was no such exemption. After a safety car restart, Verstappen led the race but ended up losing his lead to Lewis Hamilton. He spent the upcoming laps attacking Hamilton furiously. Lewis Hamilton was determined not to let Verstappen take his lead away.

He lost to Verstappen once, but the stewards determined that Verstappen had gone off the track to gain the position. Even though Red Bull and Max Verstappen put immense pressure on Hamilton. The seven-time title winner managed to fend them off and start his season with a victory. Hamilton won the first race of the season for the first time since 2015.
