The 2025 Miami Open Round of 16 action kicks off on Monday.
The Round of 16 at the 2025 Miami Open is here, and there are some mouth watering clashes on the cards. American title hope Jessica Pegula takes on Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk on Monday with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. While Kostyuk completed a 6-2 6-1 thrashing of Anna Blinkova with an underarm serve, Pegula had to take the scenic route against Anna Kalinskaya.
For a long time now, both Pegula and Kostyuk have been consistent players on tour who haven’t risen to the next level. It is the American who has the experience and better record this year. The 2024 US Open finalist has made a couple of finals and a few Round of 16s this season thus far.
Meanwhile, this is the first major challenge for Kostyuk at the 2025 Miami Open. She is yet to make it past the quarterfinal stage of any tournament this year – she will hope that her fortunes change on American soil. But who historically holds the edge in this evenly matched tussle?

The rivalry between Jessica and Marta dates back to 2022, when they first met in Cincinnati. Although Pegula holds the edge overall, it is the 22-year-old who won their most recent match-up. Currently on the verge of slipping out of the Top-30, Kostyuk will be more determined than ever to prove her mettle on the WTA-1000 stage.

Contrary to popular opinion, there is a possible upset on the cards in this Round of 16 battle. Despite Miami’s courts suiting both the players’ flat groundstrokes, Kostyuk has adapted to the surface and conditions well so far. Provided she can maintain her composure and execute her plans again, anything is possible.
Prediction: Marta Kostyuk in three sets.
Jessica Pegula Win: 4/9
Marta Kostyuk Win: 13/8
