For years, Leon Edwards worked his way up the ladder, eventually dethroning Kamaru Usman with that stunning head kick knockout in 2022. His journey from the streets of Birmingham to UFC champion inspired fans worldwide. Edwards defended his belt twice. First in the trilogy against Usman and then against Colby Covington in a gritty five-round battle. However, he lost the title to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304.

At UFC London, Sean Brady entered the picture as a dangerous contender with an impressive 17-1 record. For Leon, this fight was a must win if he wanted to be in the talks for a title contention. At UFC London, Sean Brady defeated Leon Edwards by submission via mounted guillotine at 01:39 of Round 4 . The O2 Arena fell silent as their hometown hero lost his comeback fight. The fourth rounds saw Brady stick to his gameplan. He outstruck Edwards and smothered Edwards against the fence, taking him down. Finally, he secured a Guillotine that ended the fight. The Philadelphia native had cemented himself in the title conversation now!

Sean Brady Blasts Edwards’ Lack Of Focus

In the post-fight press conference, Brady didn’t hold back. He blasted Leon Edwards for looking past him. He claimed he noticed Edwards’ lack of focus during fight week. The former champion seemed distracted by future matchmaking rather than the immediate challenge.

“Yeah I think he was too worried about Belal. He was too worried about how tall I am, he was too worried about a bunch of other things that didn’t matter. And it showed tonight and he got smoked.”

Brady revealed his focus was totally on the Edwards’ fight. Despite having his sole loss to Belal Muhammad himself, he was not dwelling on that. Furthermore, Brady’s strategy for this fight mimicked that of the current champion. He probably studied Edwards’ tendency to drift when pressed against the fence. This strategy worked perfectly as Brady repeatedly pushed Edwards into defensive positions throughout the fight.

What Is Next For Both Fighters?

The welterweight division now faces an interesting shake-up. Brady now established himself as a threat. He will now be in the conversation for the title shot. However, there are a lot of contenders waiting for that. A title elimination matchup between him and Shavkat Rakhmonov or Ian Garry makes perfect sense at the moment.

For Leon Edwards, the road back won’t be easy. At 33, he still has prime years ahead, but the mental reset might be his biggest challenge.
