Lebron ‘King’ James set another career milestone, becomes the only player to reach 50K career points

Gulshan Sharma

LeBron James needed just one point to reach 50K career points.

LeBron James made it a habit to set NBA records in almost every game. The veteran guard was in action for the Lakers against the New Orleans Pelicans. On Tuesday, the 40-year-old guard extended his all-time scoring record by becoming the first NBA player to reach 50,000 career points.

Before entering the home fixture, LeBron was only one point behind the milestone, and the veteran star crossed the 50K career points mark in the opening quarter. The Lakers superstar got a standing ovation from the Crypto.com Arena crowd. He achieved the feat through a 25-foot three-point jumper with 8:34 left in the quarter.

LeBron James reaches new high in NBA

LeBron James’ status was upgraded from questionable to probable on Tuesday. The Lakers’ guard required 18 points against the Clippers to reach the 50K point, but he fell short by one point.

LeBron James crossed 40,000 regular-season points last year in March against the Denver Nuggets. In 2023, the Lakers star surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most career points in NBA history.

Counting both playoff and regular-season points, James eclipsed 50,000 points on Tuesday. He is also the leading scorer in the regular season and is way ahead of other players. LeBron James also has the record for most playoff points and crossed the 8000-point mark last year.

It might be time to add LeBron James’ scoring record to the list of “records that never will be broken.”

“Nobody will ever, ever touch it,” Kevin Love, one of his former Cavs teammates, said in 2023 when James broke Abdul-Jabbar’s record.
