Jalen Hurts is the only $50 Million Quarterback to win a Super Bowl

Eric Divakaran

Jalen Hurts has cemented himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL currently. He led his team to the Super Bowl and crushed the Kansas City Chiefs, to win his first Super Bowl ring. Defeating the Chiefs was no small feat, as Kansas had not lost a playoff game in over three years! Hurts made sure that the Chiefs’ three-peat dreams remained a fantasy. The Eagles’ head coach, Nick Sirianni, described it best, who said “All he (Hurts) does is win.”

Having Hurts on your team is great but he does not come cheap either. Hurts had signed a 5-year $255 million contract with the Eagles in 2023. He is the 9th highest paid quarterback in the NFL, who makes $51 million in terms of his average annual salary. Being paid that high, comes with a lot of expectations from the organization, however, Hurts has shown that he deserves all of his money and perhaps even more.

Winning the Super Bowl this year makes Hurts the only quarterback, who earns more than $50 million and has won a Super Bowl trophy. Let’s find out more.

Huge part of the Eagles’ salary goes to Hurts, but they still made it work

With an average annual salary of $51 million, Jalen Hurts is the first quarterback to make $50 million and win the Super Bowl. Previously, Patrick Mahomes held the record with $45 million a season playing for the Chiefs. What’s astounding is the fact that, out of 15 quarterbacks who make $40 million or more, only Hurts (9th in the highest paid quarterback list) and Patrick Mahomes (tied for 12th in the highest paid QB list) have won at least one Super Bowl. Talk about a return on investment!

QBs such as Dak Prescott (highest paid QB in the league), Joe Burrow, Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence, Tua Tagovailoa, make way more than $50 million but still have not had much success in the postseason. However, Hurts and Mahomes have proved that paying a QB huge loads of money, can still result in success.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
