Sao Paulo Brazil To Get Second NFL Game – Week 1 Of The 2025 Season With Chargers As Designated Team

Los Angeles Chargers to play their week 1 game in Brazil

The NFL’s international games are truly gaining momentum each year. What started out with the Arizona Cardinals defeating the San Francisco 49ers 31-14 in the first-ever international regular season of the NFL, has now spread across multiple countries and continents such as Brazil in South America, and London, Germany, Spain, and Ireland in Europe. Furthermore, the NFL has confirmed that the first international game of the 2026 regular season will be held in Australia adding even more global recognition to the ever-evolving league.

With that said, it has been announced that Sao Paulo, Brazil will get to host its second NFL game in week 1 of the upcoming season. The Los Angeles Chragers have been designated as the home team for the same.

In Which Stadium Will The Game Take Place?

The game in Sao Paulo will take place at Corinthians Arena which is famously known around the world as the home of the SC Corinthians soccer club. The game will be played on Friday night of week 1.

This stadium has hosted other important events in the past such as the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympic Games. As a matter of fact, last year’s NFL game in Sao Paulo also took place in this same venue between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Who Will The Chargers Face In Sau Paulo?

The opponents for the Chargers’ week 1 game in Brazil have yet to be determined. This information along with the kickoff time will be made available when the NFL releases the 2025 schedule. Nevertheless, we know which teams the Chargers will be facing this year and that will give us a better idea of who the possible opponent could be.

Since the Sao Paulo game will be one of the Chargers’ home games, that means there are nine teams who could join them in Brazil. The Chargers home games for this season are against the following teams:

  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Las Vegas Raiders
  • Denver Broncos
  • Houston Texans
  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Washington Commanders
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Minnesota Vikings

However, the league has generally tended to stay away from scheduling divisional games on the international stage which should rule out the possibility of the Chiefs, Raiders, and Broncos as opponents. Additionally, the Eagles played in Brazil last year and thus there is a good probability that Philadelphia won’t be back in South America this year. That leaves us with the Texans, Colts, Commanders, Steelers, and Vikings.

South America’s Debut Game In 2024

This year marks the second time South America will get an NFL game. The league’s debut took place last year when the Eagles (home team) took on the Packers on September 06. South American fans were treated to a good scoring game as the Eagles won 34-29, however, the field conditions hampered the play quite a bit.

As the field at Corinthians Arena is mostly used for soccer matches, it was not conducive for an ideal NFL game. Hopefully, last year’s experience would have been a learning curve and fans will get to experience a better game this time around.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
