Lakers waive Christian Wood to sign 7-footer center to bolster frontcourt depth

Alex Len was keen to sign with the Indiana Pacers but flipped the decision to join the Lakers.

Los Angeles Lakers made the latest development after the failed trade attempt for Mark Williams. The free-agent center Alex Len has signed a deal with the Lakers, the team announced Tuesday.

Los Angeles also waived Christian Wood to make space for Len in the roaster. Wood is recovering from a knee injury, sustained during the offseason. He hasn’t played a single game for the Lakers this season.

However, Alex Len was keen to sign with the Indiana Pacers but flipped the decision to join the Lakers, who failed to acquire Mark Williams. Los Angeles required a center in the roaster and Len could be the ideal option there.

The 7-footer will help the Lakers to boost their frontcourt depth and will join Jaxson Hayes as a positional center. Len was acquired by the Wizards from the Sacramento Kings last week in a three-way deal.

The 31-year-old center averaged 1.4 points and 1.8 rebounds in 7.2 minutes this season. He has appeared in 36 games for the Kings in 2024-25 season. Playing his 12th NBA season, Len could be a vital pick for the Lakers.

Len has played 680 career NBA games across 12 seasons. He has also played with the Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns and Atlanta Hawks. The Ukraine native has recorded in double figures 198 times in his career.
