Quinyon Mitchell, the Philadelphia Eagles rookie cornerback has had an outstanding season. He alongside fellow rookie corner Cooper DeJean have completely transformed the Eagles’ secondary from what it was last year.

After starting in red-hot form reaching a record of 10-1 by week 12, Philadelphia’s defense fell apart and the NFC East franchise went on to lose five of their last six games. Their struggles continued in the postseason and Philadelphia bowed out of the playoffs in the Wild Card Round itself.

This year though, things have been very different, and much praise for the improved showing rests on the shoulders of Philly’s rookie cornerback duo.

Mitchell, being a rookie, will be playing in his first Super Bowl and the young 23-year-old is bound to feel the nerves the moment he steps onto the field. However, when the game starts, make no mistake, he will be raring to go.

Quinyon Mitchell’s Availability For Super Bowl LIX

Quinyon Mitchell is completely healthy and will be playing as Philadelphia’s starting corner in tonight’s Super Bowl. Mitchell’s presence in the secondary is sure to cause a great deal of discomfort for the Chiefs’ pass catchers.

Mitchell will most likely be tasked with covering Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy which is challenging in itself due to the speed they both possess. However, the way Mitchell has played against several top-quality receivers this season, expect him to hold up his end of the bargain.

Quinyon Mitchell’s Performance This Year

Quinyon Mitchell has put together an extraordinary performance in his rookie year and has clearly justified his selection as worthy of the first round. In fact, Mitchell’s play has earned him a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team.

According to PFF, Mitchell’s overall grade of 78.4 puts him in the eighth spot among cornerbacks. Playing almost completely on the outside, Mitchell’s extraordinary defensive capabilities revealed that he did not allow a touchdown in coverage until Week 16, even though he has started since Week 1. Overall, he has allowed just two scores against him for the entire season.

Impressively, he has been able to further enhance his game in the three postseason wins facing quality receivers. Throughout the season, Mitchell has faced a variety of number one receivers and he has more than held his own. For instance, the Eagles’ first-round pick has held Mike Evans, Amari Cooper, Malik Nabers, Ja’Marr Chase, and CeeDee Lamb all under 20 receiving yards which is an insane stat.

As far as numbers go, Mitchell has 46 tackles and 12 pass deflections in the regular season. However, in the playoffs, Mitchell has stepped up his game further collecting two interceptions in just three games.
