Is Cooper DeJean Playing Tonight? All About The Availability Of The Eagles’ Corner For the Super Bowl 59 Game

Cooper DeJean is the Philadelphia Eagles’ young 21-year-old corner who is playing in his rookie season. Drafted in the second round with pick number 40, the Eagles took a rather rare approach as they drafted back-to-back cornerbacks in rounds 1 and 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Visibly frustrated by the way their season collapsed and ended abruptly in the Wild Card Round last year, Philadelphia set out to right their wrongs. A major overhaul in the secondary with the addition of Vic Fangio as the defensive coordinator has given the Eagles a tremendous boost in their quest for another Super Bowl.

One-half of the rookie duo cornerback, Dejean has been an important cog in Philly’s defense despite his slow start to the season. Sunday will, however, be the biggest day of the youngster’s short career thus far as he takes the field in his first-ever Super Bowl and that too as a rookie.

Cooper DeJean’s Availability For Super Bowl LIX

Slot corner Cooper DeJean will be playing in his first Super Bowl tonight against the Kansas City Chiefs. Teaming up with his fellow rookie corner, DeJean will be tasked to keep the Chiefs receivers as quiet as possible.

DeJean could possibly face both Xavier Worthy and DeAndre Hopkins in the slot receiver position and if that is the case he would have two very different skill sets to contend with. Worthy is the speedster on the Chiefs team while Hopkins is the dependable veteran.

However, with the type of season the second-round draft pick has had, he should be more than able to cause problems in the middle of the field. DeJean will also have an important role in the run game as he will be tasked in stopping Kansas City’s dual threat of Kareem Hunt and Isaiah Pacheco.

Cooper DeJean’s Performance This Year

DeJean has played phenomenal defense this season from the slot corner position. Although compatriot Quinyon Mitchell has been the one to receive the major spotlight, DeJean has done more than his fair share of work to keep the Eagles’ secondary humming and the opposing receivers in check.

DeJean has been excellent in coverage and runs support as well which has provided a huge boost to the Eagles’ defense. As a matter of fact, DeJean was ranked near the top amongst all nickel corners in coverage grade during the regular season.

One of the biggest positives of DeJean’s game is his tackling ability, especially on run support as a nickel corner needs to be able to close down quickly and not allow the runner to escape.

While it took some time for DeJean to get going, he has been a regular in the starting lineup since the Eagles’ bye week. Incredibly, DeJean didn’t allow a single touchdown against him all season.

During the regular season, DeJean recorded 51 tackles, 0.5 sacks, six pass deflections, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries. Although DeJean has yet to record his first career interception, his all-round production has been vital for the team.

DeJean’s terrific performances didn’t go unnoticed as he was awarded a place in the PFWA All-Rookie Team for this season.
